Hi there,
I have a thud or 'thunk' from the rear of my 110 USW that has lsowly got worse over the last 6 months, and is now driving me mad. It happens when going over bumps - Originally over large bumps, now even small ones. It sounds like it's coming from around the rear (2nd row) seat area in my USW, on the drivers side, and makes the whole rear bodywork reverberate, not to mention I can feel the thunk through my drivers seat. I've emptied out the rear of the car, the rear trim is all fixed down tightly, but it still does it. Tightened down all the bolts from inside the rear of the 110. Any ideas - I'm stumped? 2010 110 XS USW (the slow one) 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ (the fast one) 2005 Ducati ST3 1954 Sunbeam S8 |

Spare wheel on rear door? My TD5 with the later door does give me a noise not dissimilar to your description. Everything is tight I think the weight of the spare is doing the noise or its the door moving in the seal. Now there's an excuse for a swing away carrier

My Puma is about 1 month old with 1400 kms on it and I am getting the same noise. Can't be worn bushings. Have checked anti roll bar and there is no movement there so the bushings are fine. Same with the shocks. Only problem I have with it. The 2008 model I have never did this. It will no doubt turn out to be something simple. Spare whell on the door has no movement either. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

'A' frame ball joint bush not seated properly? Not costly to replace unit, believe Paddocks do a H/D version.

Could be but it is a bit hard to check on your own. Probably head to the garage where I got it and get it up on a lift. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Undo the nuts on the door mounted spare wheel. Tighten them gradually turnabout,i.e don't tighten one fully then go to the next etc.Give one a few turns, then do the next one a few turns. Seems to have worked for me. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Cheers, all. About to try the spare wheel re-tightening 'trick'.
ONe thing I did notice, when grovelling around under the car, was that the fuel filter guard flap seemed quite loose, and was clonking a bit when wobbling it. I wedged a piece of rubber in it, and this seems to have removed a slight clonk but not the main one. What I have noticed is that the clonk gets better when the car is hot.......any ideas? 2010 110 XS USW (the slow one) 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ (the fast one) 2005 Ducati ST3 1954 Sunbeam S8 |

Just back from some bumpy roads. The above stopped the smaller knocking noise. The remaining noise sounds as if there is a loose piece of wood sitting on the floor and this jumps and lands when a bump is crossed. Have checked the seat cage underneath and that is ok. Bound to be something simple but I just cannot find it. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Sat in the back this evening while the Mrs.drove. Noise seemed to come from the area at the bottom of the trim around the rear windows. It is not the rear seats or fixtures. It is not the backdoor. It is not the floor.Have not removed rear window trim to check. Does anyone who has no rear window trim get this noise?Maybe Solihull skimped on trim fasteners. Will investigate further tomorrow. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Well, assuming we have the same noise, I hate to tell you, but in my USW (so no rear windows), I've actually fixed the rear trim to the frame using screws, so that can't move. I did actually wonder today if it was the rear door being loose on its catch, but unable to check on my own.

Bang goes that theory! Rear door seems rock solid. Roll on the next theory. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I've allways had the feeling that the noise stems from the back door, as mentioned above the door loose on the catch. The weight of the spare enough to "rattle" the door in its fastened position. I've tried to get the kids to move the door and they can allmost replicate the noise. When I was waiting for a replacement back window I had taken the spare off for a couple of days and the noise wasn't noticable, so one day that is going to be my excuse for a swing away carrier
