Have you tried Flatdog ?
They appear to be more off road orientated but may be able to help. Bob |

Haven't tried them but I'll look them up , cheers .
Bit put off by dissmive attitudes so far. Lots of people saying it's a defender , get a disco if you want comfort etc etc. I had a disco 4 so know what comfort is ! Lol this isn't my first defender either. 110 HT TD5 - 110 XS SW Puma |

Don't be put off - it's perfectly reasonable to like a Defender, but dislike the ride - when my back is giving me trouble and I feel every jar up my spine, I wish there was a spring, damper & arb combination that was tried & tested & sold as a 'comfort' package - it's surprising it isn't out there... My old RR classic rode really nice - I know it had the Boge SLS on the back which helped, but there must be a combination that would work for Defender - particularly a 110. (Didn't 110s used to have a Boge fitted?) |

I had a 93 110 with a boge, HD springs and bilsteins and I felt it was less bouncy than my 09 with stock springs and bilsteins. I will eventually figure it out.

my 300tdi 90 has had the j e treatment (koni shocks, larger arb and different springs (1" lower)) and it is still the most comfortable land rover i have owned - i have done over 100k miles and one koni mounting eye has failed.
quite happy to drive it 9 hours upto fort william, it is that comfortable. they also tweaked my td5 but didn't replace the shocks - that made the truck far more sporting than comfortable. get koni - ride happy |

Leeds : Cheers I'll look into it thanks
Ads90 : I know , someone's missing a trick here. Seems everyone from road racers to expedition adventures are catered for but no-one makes a a package sold as a comfort / touring setup . Absolutely certain there's serious money to be made here for who-ever focuses on this. Farmer giles : Thanks for the heads up on the Koni , I suspect I should have gone for them instead of OME as they are more off road biased to the Koni's on road touring merits. I spoke to JE but to be honest they wern't that helpfull. They said the 110 was heavier than the 90 so there was not much I could do. They said they put softer springs on the 90 as it was a lighter car. They also said that the rest of what they do is for performance rather than improving ride quality. I'm certain that the ride can be improved on it , just need a shed full of springs and shocks and ARB's to experiment with ( I can't do the quotes thing on my iPad , sorry folks ) [/quote] 110 HT TD5 - 110 XS SW Puma |

Hi Fishrider
I have 110 double cab running standard LR suspension. I have a Sonic wheel carrier on the back (heavy) and a tubular winch bumper and winch on the front - also heavy With this set up my 110 is not bouncy and the ride is not firm either, probably due to all the extra weight. However, the front end does sag under the weight and I don't think the front shocks are working as they should do. What I am looking at doing is putting Bilstein shocks all round (if I can ever find the correct part number) and putting Flatdog HD (no lift) springs on the front. Devon 4x4 suggested standard LR HD spings plus OME shocks but the cost started to get out of hand, however it is a similar set up to what I am looking at. I do a reasonable amount of off road so I think the set up I am looking at should be OK for me but may well not be suitable for you. I don't think what you are trying to achieve is unique, the problem is trying to find somebody to give you the correct advice. The one person/company who may be the most help is IRB. Porny (Ian) is a member on this site but I have not noticed him posting for a while. He is difficult to get hold of but it may be well worth the effort. Bob |

Ignore JE - They were pretty unhelpful to me when I spoke to them, and said much the same as they said to you (which is why I decided to persevere and got 'my' springs made by Extreme 4x4). You're welcome to see how my 110 rides, if you're ever near the Cotswolds.

Lots of food for thought here ,I'm going to make some enquiries with all the firms / people you've all recommended.
SZRACER : I'll give them call , sounds like you had the same experience as me ! Thanks for the offer of the test drive too , next time I'm out of Cornwall I'll let know. So it seems the lighter the spring the tougher the arb has to be. I'm never going to tow a heavy trailer with this car as I have the TD5 HT for work duties. As mines a SW 7 seater it's really for carrying people in comfort is what i'm looking for. My everyday driving is on bumpy C lanes in North Cornwall and farm tracks which I take steady and aren't a problem it's just the lanes which are jarring after a while. I thought the setup would be different between my Ht and the station wagon which they're not. Anyway I shall get there BOB Neville : I agree about the weight , I have the weights from my multi gym stacked up in the back to keep the back under control lol I'll speak to Ian too. Do we think that because the defender has so many configurations that there's no one standard / size fits all type thing happening. I mean mines a station wagon with seven seats so is going to have a different use to a utility station wagon ie the SW probably won't be used for hauling heavy stuff around etc Thought I'd add that it's still the best car ever made . It's perfect for us as a family car where we live . Just need to sort this one issue out 110 HT TD5 - 110 XS SW Puma |

Very much so. But what we must also consider is what weight they can carry. 7 adults @ 70kg each? 490kg...half a tonne extra, try that and see what the rides like! If money not an issue devon do some lovely king shocks with air bump stops etc, they also sell the koni shocks. |

T1G UP : Wow I'm assuming that's 500 pounds each ? for the kings ! They do look amazing though
A few weeks back I picked my kids and their friends up from school , had 8 of us in it and you could hardly feel the road just floated over the undulations. I'm preparired to spend as much as it takes to get it right , within reason. I'd say two adults two teenagers and two dogs is it's usual load. Occasional motorcycle in a trailer and hay for horses etc Devon do the shocks but I need a spring fix too . May get the the springs from where SZRACER got his and a set of the kings. They will think I'm nuts lol bet you anything they'll say they're for comp use and I don't need them 110 HT TD5 - 110 XS SW Puma |
