Laughing I think the steering issue (not centering) is relatively easy to fix. The axle has been canted to address an early issue with caster angles. Vehicles that have had the axle returned to its pre-‘fix’ position and then had 4 wheel alignment have been fine (I’m told) and the steering wheel centres fine. There might be an issue with some dealerships ‘fixing’ off centre steering wheels by removing the wheel and moving it on a spline or two….not the smartest.

I suppose the only difference being is in the right hands, and with someone who has enough money or sponsorship and time, the Defender / Grenadier could well be being driven to Cape Town whereas no amounts of body spray will make me that attractive to masses of the opposite sex.

The nearest my Defender has come to Cape Town is when I wear my South African Rugby fleece and a trip to Chris Calvert's garage down near the south coast Laughing

Nice to hear of some pieces still being made in the UK. Over the past 25-years, and specifically 15-20 years ago, I watched a lot of Southern small to medium UK businesses I worked with lose engineering work to Asia. Some of them folded as a result and some managed to find non-automotive based work to keep the machines and staff busy, although more often than not with a reduction in the work force.

Thankfully, the Midlands and further North seem to have managed to maintain more engineering work, although I do know those areas have been impacted as well. The government, with initiatives such as the STEM program, are finally recognising that allowing manufacturing, and engineering, excellence in the UK to be eroded to nothing is a huge mistake. You could argue far too late and this non-partisan and Labour are as guilty as the Conservatives.

With all that said, it is good to hear that at least some parts are being made in the UK - long may that continue.

Anyone who has owned a proper Subaru will tell you how capable they are off-road. Whilst not a direct competitor for the Defender, nor as outright capable, there is a reason you see so many in rural areas. Very competent and will do everything the average person needs when off tarmac; hence seeing so many being driven by farmers and land owners. So, whilst not a direct competitor, fulfil the same roll for the average user.

I owned an Impreza Turbo 2000, something I'd think any Scooby fanboy would consider a "proper" Subaru. It was good, but no off road vehicle...... Laughing

Don't see all that many in the UK any more and certainly not for any sort of utility or agricultural use. They seem more heavily focused on 'lifestyle' vehicles in the USA with basic soft roader off road capability. I actually quite like them as a modern Freelander style of vehicle or replacement for the older Legacy Outback/Forrester. But they are completely different vehicles to a Defender or Grenadier, which was my entire point. And unlikely to be on anyones comparison list of potential vehicles to buy if you are considering something like the new Defender or Grenadier.

I will keep my eyes open to see how much they do for it, today i saw a fare amount going to France.
