United Kingdom 1989 Defender 90 300 Tdi PU Keswick Green
Another couple of jobs ticked off.

Seat rails removed and repainted.

Decided to finally stick a radio in - most journeys are down the a55 to Anglesey so I wanted to listen to Radio X and to sort the ugly blank in the centre console. I’d been putting it off as I hate all the modern bling aftermarket radios, and a double din isn’t really the vibe I’m going for. Found Blaupunkts retro range, which mimic OEM style stereos from the 80s and 90s, but have DAB and Bluetooth, perfect!. Settled on a Blaupunkt Valencia as it has the above and focal speakers to give me a chance of hearing anything.

Used the large mud stuff spacers as the wiper motor is in the way on these early models. was worried it would be too chunky but doesn’t actually get in the way. Daft design though as the fixing holes for the spacers are centred and end up where the speaker hole actually is, so had to offset and bond it to the motor cover. Even these weren’t quite deep enough but just about made them fit.

Happy with how it all looks and I can actually hear the focals fine, though definitely needs more bass. I’ll add another set to the rear and a subwoofer soon.

Lanoguarded the underside again, so now I smell like sheep. Thought I had way more left over than I did so ended up using the spray on the cavities and painting the entire outside of the chassis with melted lanoguard grease. Slow but should be really well protected. Took my time to get in every corner and on top of the chassis and outriggers. Bit darker than the spray where it goes on thick.

If you got that far well done, this is mostly for me to check back on so i can remember when I’ve done things Smile

Have some bonus pictures of the last of the autumn colours, on my way back from camping
