I think you've probably found the problem in the NS stop/tail bulb holder.
Likely this is shorting between brake and side. Part number to replace this is XBP100190. Also change the bulb in this side anyway, it may be faulty and the cause of the overheat. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Incorrect bulb or bulb not fitted correctlt shorting the stop and tail contacts togeather.

Thanks to all for your help and advice - it looks like the issue might have been caused by one of the two stop and tail bulbs. I changed both of them for new ones and the issue seems to have been resolved. It's early days but fingers crossed!
