Well ! All I can say is that I’ve dropped a few sumps in my life notably every single TD5 I have bought ( about 6 ) to check that the bolt on the oil pump is tight and have never seen as much crap as I have just seen in the bottom of this 2.4 tdci which was obviously the cause of this engine failure!

and I suspect the issue is the oil has been overheated by whatever .. blow by gases, lack of oil changes and the oil degrading etc etc.. I just can't see how the egr system has contributed to that as has been suggested, is all im saying..

On its own I don’t thing the egr would cause the OP’s issue, but coupled with lack of oil changes could be a contributory factor.

Controversial, but the prices are high because of the demand as they’re a pretty awful engine Whistle

Thanks for the link.. It explains your point about the egr.. And I'd have to say I wasn't aware of that issue. 👍

I use Wurth engine flush in my 2009 (165,000miles) when changing the oil. Seems to be running fine.

Morning

Absolutely no nearer with this Big Cry

And going round in circles ! New stripped engine from Land Rover France 6500 euro's and full build with auxilaries 15000euro !

Lot of money for a crap engine

what would a top end rebuild consist of where it's knocking ?

What's the best and and most straight forward alternative engine swap ?

Thanks in advance
