Random plug
Hello All,
This may be better in the 'leccy section but...

I've just removed my Cubby box and found an aftermarket rocker switch hanging around under there. I traced it back to an OE plug that exits the main loom above the Transfer box. From the loom it's 2 cores - 1 black and 1 that could be either white with a black stripe or black with a white stripe.

I was hoping that it might be an anti theft thing but the engine starts whichever way the switch is. Any ideas..??

White with a black stripe is High/Low wiring. There is meant to be a switch on the transfer box to control this but sounds like someone has bypassed it to a rocker on yours.

Switching it will affect how sensitive the throttle pedal is. 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power

Ah, that's interesting - thanks for the answer.
I wonder if it's because I have a Disco (1.2) T/box..??

I guess it dampens the throttle response I'm Low box..??

I'm going 'laning' in a couple of weeks so will experiment then..πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ˜

Possibly the reason, although I think the D2 box should have the switch too, could be wrong though.

Yes, dampens throttle response.

You've reminded me that I need to wire mine in, I never connected it up after doing my td5 swap! 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power

It’s a manual override switch for the high/low detection.

A proper D2 box will have the switch. If a D1 box has been fitted, it won’t have the switch.

Either a previous owner liked the low range pedal response, or there’s no switch on the box so this has been put in as a workaround.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

That's good to know Gents - thanks for the replies.. πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ‘

I imagine that it could also be helpful in snowy conditions...
