I'd doubt very much that the axle is bent
Is your vehicle lifted? Also are you running different front shock turrets? Lifting can rotate the axle (lift the nose of the diff up) which will impact caster. |

I guess you already checked the swivel bearings and wheel bearings.
My 2012 90 also shows some degree of negative camber, both swivel pins and wheel bearings are ok. But >100k miles on them. But its a mig welded axle… so never know. The 1988 90 too showed some negative camber, and when I overhauled the axle, I measured the parallelism of the axle swivel ball flanges by clamping 2 straight edges and measuring 1m apart on either side of the top and bottom of the flanges, and the axle was perfect. So suspect that all camber came from wear. But cannot gauge if its fixed with all new bearings as the 90 has not moved an inch since then. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Just quick update.. I have another front axle which I checked and that one is dead straight, so I am planning to swap out.
Some interesting facts. The axle currently on the car (MY 2003) is a 64L which according to LRWorkshop was fitted to V8 defenders (!) during year 1992 to 1997 so NOT original. The replacement axle I have is a 16M 1997 to 2002. Both axles are not heavy duty but they both have the wider radius arm. 64L is LHD specifically but 16M is universal with both sides having both arms Of course I could rebuild, but I know the replacement axle was good. I will change the lub oil and swivel grease and I have a few brand new Timken bearing sets which I will fit for good measure. I plan to leave the brake calipers dangling when I swap the axle so easy to get to the bearings. |
