timbar, it wasn't the headlight switch that was the issue it was the flash and main beam part of the indicator stalk that was causing my issue which from memory was similar to your problem. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

Had a look today, unfortunately very busy today so that was about all I could do.
Not disconnected it yet, but will as soon as I get a chance, some proper light and it isn't bitterly cold out. A real sod to take a pic of with an iPad but I took a pic of mine too. Looks like an Econoseal connector. Click image to enlarge KEEP CALM AND Drill ON 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Well today, call me a little OTT but I got a pair of Econoseal connectors to blank off the two connectors present for the resistor..
I just Silicone sealed the rear entry's for a waterproof connections and to keep everything dry and clean. Works a treat and all tidied up and out of the way. All good, everything working as it should except for one thing. Headlights are fine, no sidelight, dipped and full beam on either stalk pull back or constant on latched. All good on the headlights in every way. The issue, now my spotlights are main beam blue and white cable triggered by a Relay. Pull the stalk back and the headlights will go main beam, the Relay will trigger and so will the spots Relay. But the stalk forward to latch on and the headlights will go full beam but NOT the Relay trigger and thus not the spots. On all occasions the dash main beam light will work. So it seems that, I have suddenly got a dodgy spotlight Relay or the trigger feed voltage has changed. There must be voltage present on pulling the stalk back on the trigger feed, but not on latching the stalk. I cannot see why this is happening as the blue white main beam cable should be live on both main beam stalk pulled forward intermittent which it does AND latched on. If this isn't the Relay which I can't see that it is then I'm wondering if when I get the Land Reiziger looms fitted I'll have issues just the same. The Noldens I have to fit are dipped beam and main beam only via the H4 connector, the position lights. (Mine have these.) Are fed from the sidelights above using the 4x4 Overlander loom. I haven't done any testing or tried a new Relay but none the less I'm guessing the Relay will make no difference and the main beam pin on the H4 will be either low voltage or no voltage with the main beam stalk forward and latched. I'm wondering on e the Land Reiziger looms are fitted if I can just tap into the main beam feed on that to the headlights and all will be well. Otherwise I'll have a headache on my hands! And probably will anyway. **EDIT** Just thought I'd pop out and try it with the engine running with alternator charging current. Still the same. I'm guessing it's 12.2v - 14.2v on main beam wire with stalk pulled to flash and low or 0v on latched constant. Really odd, if I short the two I'll end up with dipped on sidelights and on sidelights which is not what I want. Hmm, will need to do some testing... KEEP CALM AND Drill ON 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

After doing some research online, it seems it may be the dim / dip Relay too that could be a possibility.
Most mention earlier Defenders, but my 90 2.4 Puma has the same Relay as those suggested. I'm wondering if this may be my issue: https://locris.wordpress.com/2015/08/13/la...-solution/ At least temporary I can test for free and see how it goes. Thoughts? KEEP CALM AND Drill ON 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Steve,
You might want to take a look at my post here. The dim dip relay cannot be the source of your problem. Simply unplugging the dim dip resistor cannot affect the main beam circuit in the way you describe. |

The dimmer resistor on my Td5 was tucked in on the inner wing around or a little in front of the air intake on the right side front wing, same as the Puma.
Mine is a right hand drive car, I'm not sure if it's the same on a LHD. |
