Having never paid more than £200 for any of my landrovers in 40 years and never made a claim, you can understand my shock when I got a quote this year for £1400 😮 was reduced to £480 and Iv just today been given a refund of £200 taking my policy back to £280. CAR-AZY.

Wow. You’re paying £280 a year to insure a new model defender? That’s very cheap MY25 D350 Defender 110 X, Carpathian Grey, 7 Seat, Electric Towbar

Not sure about “coming down” as this is the first one I’ve insured but it certainly pays to use a comparison site.

We had our Tiguan and California on an LV multicar at 600 for both, was pretty happy with that down from 1000 the previous year.

Sold the former to replace with a new 110 on March 1 and just had a quote of 1700 from LV.

Used Meercat and got down to 810 with all the bits. Could have gone down to 710 with no extras.

Admiral was the winner for us, but of course all driver and location dependent.

The Adrian Flux comment was salesman twaddle. There are not “loads of Defenders” in containers.

Sadly gone are the days when you could visit your broker and discuss the quote, now it's all down to what the computer says.

The lowest quote l ever had for any of our old Defenders was around £300. Mostly it was £400+

There was always a background of people on the forums who got insurance for £150 or less, but l could never get near it.

So, I made the call today to Admiral and I've gone from £2915pa down to £1845pa - £1070 saved.

Same policy, same insurer. They were also very proud to tell me they waived the £60 cancellation fee..

On appearance it seems very nice, but it's not so generous now that I know they've been overcharging me for several months with no plans to tell me! Sneaky Censored .

Check your quotes regularly people.

I eventually went with Aviva as Saga wouldn't go below £700. £519 is still a lot more than I was paying before, despite no claims and the vehicle being worth less. 2024 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE P400

All cars for daily use, kids included and in outer skirts of Paris. Either there is a lot of vehicle theft/insurance fraud in the UK or the insurance market itself is creaming the profits.

Could I ask who you use for your car insurance in France? I'm moving over there in the summer and need to look for insurance for the Defender.

I don't know what you're talking about, or what the system is like there. Here in Spain, to put it briefly, there's a basic, mandatory insurance policy called "third-party liability insurance," which covers damages you cause to others but not your own. Then there's the "comprehensive" insurance, which covers the mandatory third-party liability insurance and also your own damages... logically, comparing the two is like comparing an egg with a chestnut, meaning they have nothing to do with each other. Having said all that, a new Defender pays around €400 for third-party liability and around €800 for comprehensive insurance, with a small deductible that forces you to pay an initial amount of the first €100 or €200, and then nothing. Above €1,500, the latter case has no deductible whatsoever... I don't know if it's the same thing... so when you talk about the cost of insurance in the UK, what coverage are you really talking about? The thing can be very different to be able to compare, and it can give a very wrong idea.IMHO Defender 110 SE I6 D250 23MY

Sorry did not see your question. We use MAAF a mutuelle. I looked it up and it means Mutuelle d'assurance des artisans de France. There you go. It was recommended to us by some French family. They are easy to deal with, have not had to make a claim so 🤞

The other thing that is different from my experience having insured cars in the UK: in the UK the driver is insured, while in Europe the car is insured. So when you have kids it's a lot cheaper for them to drive around in your cars. It's prudent to name them on the insurance as they can build up no claim and in case you have to claim. On our (French) insurance there was no additional cost to name our 19 year old son so he can drive around the Discovery and Range Rover. Try that in the UK
