I have been around at several injector test benches performing tests and I have the impression they deliver pretty much useless results, except if an injector is trully bad or leaks. I can only speak for the 2.4 Denso injectors. Puma 110" SW

I cleaned the intercooler because it was full of oil from the old engine. I also removed the catalytic converter because it was full of oil. Could the central silencer also be full of oil and causing this problem? |

It costs nothing to try mechanically sealing the egr valve with a plate. |

We installed 4 new injectors (original) that we had in stock. |

Worth a try..👍
Also the point bw made about the pressure in the engine on the breather.. but if you have had turbos off and on I'd have expected to see excess oil in the pipework if it was bad.. If it is excessive you would suspect injector seals given your compression tests are good...but again you have just done the injectors .. Good luck anyway.👍 |

I have no smoke from the breather, and no trace of oil.
I have the impression that no air is coming out of it. On the old engine, it was a real chimney. |

Has it been remapped? If so, by whom. A lot of fly-by-night mappers were popular back in the day. Mine was mapped by Bell who are very well regarded and it still has glitches. Below -10C, at very light throttle and going down hill, it puts out a lot of blue smoke. A wee bit warmer outside and it disappears. This is when the engine is at temp.
Off topic but engine mapping is way more complicated than it seems. I think a lot of issues are caused by mapping and then not fitting and minding a EGT. Mine has a basic 150 Bell map and I could wrap (needle past the bottom and coming back up again) the EGT gauge very easily on a hill and my gauge reads to 2K°F! Back on topic, I think your injection system is somehow thinking it needs more fuel. Bad MAF, MAP, CHT sensors. Wiring issues therein. Air leaks in the post turbo intake system (thinks there's more air than there actually is), etc. |

this defender has never been remaped.
Is it possible to test the sensors with a diagnostic tool? I have a launch x431 pro. |

I don't have any ferrite on the actuator wiring, is this normal? Is it possible to test the sensors with a diagnostic tool? I have a launch x431 pro. |

i believe on the Nanocom and Gap Diagnostic IID Tool are the only ones that provide detailed diagnostic abilities.

To me the definitive test for just about any sensor or actuator is the scope..
The scan tool is usually the first port of call but the scope can confirm it's proper function.. The big issue with scope work is having access to known good .. |

I have a scope function on my diagnostic tool, I'm going to try it this week.

That's great.. 👍
the big advantage of having the scope facility with the scan tool is the fact you are more likely to use it and I'd imagine the softwares are interlinked and compatible making it easier to understand.. Well that's what I'm thinking🤔, but I've only ever had the separate unit and there is no doubt that puts people off getting it out as there is no denying it can be tedious setting it up.. In a garage it should be easier as they should have a diagnostic cart with the gear to hand.. The more you use it the easier it gets👍😁 |

I'd think that this is possible but not likely, I imagine it would take some time for the silencer to get hot enough to start burning oil despite the heat of the exhaust gas. If the smoke is due to residual oil anywhere in the exhaust system it will stop once all the oil has burnt. |
