Well just to keep up to date... bought my GF a new pair for Santa and the zips are impossible to use and the inner leather lining is stained a bit so at £295 i am leaning toward the thought that they are a bit expensive! 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Just got some Hunter Sovereign half price. Still too much to pay for wellies IMO and disappointed to see 'Made in China'. Is the Gates's factory in Scotland now closed? Are Barbour still made in Durham?

Barbour have been made in China for years, the quality is shocking but the people who buy them now (fasion fasion fasion) don't care. Barbour quality of old is now Swazi (fantastic gear), Musto, Harkila or Schoffel. Le Cham wellies are good, but recently they have thinned down the amount of rubber they use to make them, again, quality gear suffering because most people only wear them to walk their cockerpoo. LaCrosse make some cracking boots, as good as old Le Cham and maybe a little better than the newer ones. I wear my wellies or boots all day everyday at work, and then most of the weekend too, probably 325 days a year, so a £300 wellies and a £250 pair of boots that last two years are very cost effecient, think my last pair of Le Chams lasted about 3 years. Meindl Glocker are the stalking boot for high ground, without a doubt - wellies for low country though. I don't know any stalkers or keepers who wear Hunters any more. In fact all the high ground keepers wear boots, wellies dont have the support at all. Good things come to the wild and free |

Buying Barbours for outdoor work is a mistake, they are good for going to the pub, I still wear a 15 year old one that I nicked off my old man for that! I have size 14 feet, so my Meindl and Chams had to be special order... £££ Good things come to the wild and free |

Better than bloody Hunters then, £140 for a pair, leaking the third or fourth wearing (only hour or so each time), but more than year old, so no interest
