Aha, now I understand! That as far as I remember is a blanking plate that covers the unused air intake port on the driver's side, since the air intake duct is on the passenger side. So to that extent you are correct, it is a hole leading into the heater box, and it leads into the fresh air (i.e., unheated, and uncooled is a/c is fitted) portion of the box. Any leaves and debris which makes it past the intake on the wing, through the intake duct to the blower unit, past the fan and through the duct into the heater box, will end up in there. So it is entirely possible that leaves and crud will end up in there. I am tempted to remove mine to see what treasures I can find! Somewhere I have a could of spare heater units and if I can remember where I stashed them I will try to get a photo to better explain the plate. I am more than a little impressed that you managed to find that in the footwell and managed to remove it. It is not easily accessible. |
