Defender 90 rear shock absorbers
I have a 2011 Defender 90 which has done 64k miles. One of the rear shock absorbers needs replaced (the top cover that encases the piston arm has broken away and arm is exposed). I plan to replace both rears - any thoughts on the attached photo of Britparts "basic version" or should I go upmarket? My Landy has an easy life with no off-roading.

Also what is correct torque setting for upper & lower nuts?

Thanks.

LR genuine ones are very good quality and last well. Any aftermarket ones will have varying degrees of damping in comparison to the original ones so may feel somewhat different.

I would stick with OEM and avoid aftermarket shocks.

There is BILSTEIN ones if money no object and you want something with more curb appeal.

This is the P/N for a 90". Make sure it is genuine as some vendors list other non genuine with this number or some equivalent bit. Puma 110" SW

Thanks Guys for great feedback - so much appreciated. So definitely not cheap ones! Any thoughts on torque level for nuts or maybe just tighten up hard? My hobby is working on old classic tractors (collection of 8 much to my wife's displeasure!) - often no torque settings - just use common sense!

Not torque info, but pay attention the way all the washers and bushings go. Puma 110" SW

For shocks I use the torque setting of tight but not effing tight. WARNING.

Certainly not tight on the bottom fixings. You just need the rubber bushes just starting to be compressed not squashed flat

Torque values for shock absorbers from the WSM. Upper fixing 85Nm, lower fixing 28Nm.

Standard are ok and a good all round mix. But there are better shocks out there. For a budget offering the Britpart Cellular Dynamic is a good shock. It is a twin tube design and will be a major upgrade if you ever tow or haul anything.

If you off road consider a +2” shock as you’ll get more suspension flex. But you may need to add dislocation cones or longer springs.

I'll concur with Mr Drumstick that the Britpart Cellular Dynamic shock is a good competent shock and is extremely good value for money. Ive had them on my 90 now for the last 5 years and they have served well with long motorway runs to southern Europe, green laning and commuting. They are not, however, reassuringly expensive and lack the bragging rights of the more expensive brands. Sorry.
