1100/1200 RPM power hesitation
After doing a good chunk of miles over the weekend (roughly 450), mixed motorway, A and backroads, my 110 drove without fault (ignoring drivetrain slack that I need to sort!!). Got home and popped out and noticed some hesitation at around 1100/1200 RPM. Went out again tonight to do some testing and it’s 100% there, hesitating for 1/2 seconds then suddenly picking up.

It doesn’t happen every time and can only notice it in 1st and 2nd gear. Can’t work it out at all! It’s like it’s just killing the power, but not enough to stall. Power after that is all good and pulls as normal.

Any ideas? Could it be my time to replace the VCV? From what I’ve read that has slightly different symptoms.

It’s a 2011 2.4 utility. Just about to order an ODB reader to see if it’s flagging anything, but no engine management light coming on.

Thanks in advance. Hoping I can nail/fix this before travelling France!

Should have added. Engine temp doesn’t appear to make a difference to the behaviour.

Definitely pull codes first. The warning light does not come on for every code.

As above, check for codes first. If there are no codes it could very well be a VCV issue.

Thanks for the replies.

Just ran some diagnostics with an OBDLink MX+ and their OBDLink app - no fault codes returned! Can’t decide if that’s good news or bad! Rolling Eyes

I was kind of hoping it would be the MAF sensor or another 5 minute job. I then ran ‘CarScanner’ which returned:

Third app (FORScan Viewer) also returned no errors. So I’m baffled now!

I'm a retired 35 year mechanic but I not an expert on Puma injection. Myself, I would check your battery connections and ground connections (as many as you can find), clear the codes, and try again. Reasoning? The fact "everything" was having trouble communicating leads me to think there's probably a common cause. The most common connection issue is grounds.

Those are old archived codes and not likely to be relevant to your current issue.. More likely from previous work and having something disconnected.. As said make a note and clear.. If the same return then you will know one way or other
If you could run your truck while watching live values, Fuel rail pressure would be a good one to start with.. 👍

Thanks all for the info. I’ll get some live data when I’m next out and feedback here.

Live diagnostics in hand, I went out for a drive today. Made sure I did plenty of stopping and starting. Did it misbehave? No, of course not Rolling Eyes

I’ve cleaned the MAP sensor as that was coated so let’s see how it behaves.
