Q: "Ineos has sold 2,126 Grenadiers in Europe through August, according to Dataforce. Where do you expect sales to be for the full year and what is the outlook for your sales in Europe for 2024?"

A: "To put a little bit more context around that, we have produced 7,000 and we have about 4,000 registrations. By the end of this year, we probably will have produced about 15,000 Grenadiers. We are just ramping up our second shift at the moment, which means that with a full year of two-shift production next year we will get closer to about 30,000. That will be our global production. That will satisfy orders from Europe, North America, Africa, Australia and Asia Pacific."

You can add at least one registration in South Africa, I saw it in the background on a BBC News report about Oscar Pistorius last night Laughing

Seriously, I really hope Ineos get the sales they need to be a success. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Quite a few of those will be promotional cars as well. Not looking great for them right now. WARNING.

Had a good luck round them at the Game Fair, i like them and if i needed a more utilitarian vehicle i would go for one, but i'll stick with the D5 for less money

Those figures must be disappointing.

Does anyone know whether any dealers have fallen by the wayside yet. Low sales must be impacting their investments in the product.

Still, Grenadier was so yesterday. Jim has another vanity project at Old Trafford now. Said tongue in cheek, but is some of the problem the driving force behind the Grenadier has his time tied up somewhere else.

Still think it costs too much and lost its direction from the utilitarian vehicle which was promised. That’s a shame as I had very high hopes for it.

lt's a niche market vehicle.

There's lots of moaning about the new Defender "it's not a Defender" and "Land Rover should have built a Grenadier"

The new Defender is still selling as fast as Land Rover can build them, after four years. That's why Land Rover built it the way it is.

ln the end, it's about how many vehicles a company shift. And the new "Defender" has been a resounding success.

Personally l would rather have seen a "Grenadier" from Land Rover. lt would have been awesome. But they wouldn't have sold enough of them.

Buyers want the adventure spirit of a 4x4 but without any of the compromises. On the New Defender forum there's a five page thread with owners moaning about surface rust on the rear towing eyes.

lmagine if the vehicle had a separate chassis with the odd bit of surface rust visible, and steering that didn't self centre. They'd be up in arms.

l would estimate that 75% of New Defenders round here are driven by steely faced and well dressed mums. lt's a market with plenty of money. 90% of these vehicles (according to my local LR dealer) are on PCP.
There's no real love or passion for the legacy of the vehicle, it's washed regularly and serviced once, then returned after three years for another new one.

The Grenadier is a vehicle for enthusiasts, to buy and keep for a decade or longer. l am glad it exists and had it been classed as "Commercial" in 2022 l would have had one instead of my Defender Commercial.

Agree, great post.

It’s at the intro phase in the states. I would assume that it will become niche after the initial orders are fulfilled. 1951 80" S1 2.0
