I cannot believe these crazy prices in mainland UK dealers. £400 - £500 for a first service

This is simply a spin off from the Range Rover ethos (which of course is under the same roof) - charge what you like as the customer is rich and won't even look at the bill

I was in Enniskillen -Northern Ireland- today and popped into Toppings LR dealers for a couple of oil filters ( separate post ) This dealer is highly recommended by Spudfan. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. They are one of the few dealers to have an LR master technician on site and when I enquired as to the cost of a first service on a Puma I was told - wait for it - £250 all in. My father in law had his first service done at Lookers in Chelmsford, paid almost £500 and still had problems. I am aware that overheads are dearer in the South East but for a basic oil/filter change and a few pumps of grease into the UJs thats daylight robbery. Its paying an excess for the high end dealer Bullsh1t IMHO

and I forgot to mention Toppings only use Castrol SLX (trade version of Edge) 5-30 powerflow - a lot dearer than Magnatec !

The Toppings invoice lists it at £7.50 per litre plus vat.Oil change came to £52.50 plus vat.Oil filter was £9.98 plus vat
The Halfords Puma oil filter is Coopers. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

yep Spud the point I was making is that even at a great value service charge Toppings aren't skimping on quality and for your £250 you still get an oil thats better (and more expensive for them to buy) than the std spec Magnatec which makes them even better value

Every dealership should have a master tech on site.

The price you've been charged for the SLX Powerflow (which is for all DPF equipped models) is very good, in fact it is too cheap. They are only making a couple of Pounds a litre on what we pay for ours at full trade.
