Remappping for Economy.
Tell me about remaps and economy........Just something I'm considering.

I'll tell you that if you punch "remaps" into the search facility it comes up with 50 threads..... Thumbs Up

Had a remap for a couple of years now! 20% fuel economy increase claimed and can get it too if I drive carefully. But 'on balance' economy is the same but driveability and torque increases alone are worth the spend!
If you're doing it purely for economy reasons only forget it! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Do it, the 90 Im selling has a Stage 2 remap. It has all the go and with none of the MPG drops unless driven with some serious gusto. Last MPG calculations were 29-30-31mpg *not in that order!*

With the TD5 I'd definitely go for the Stage 2 with the Intercooler and EGR removed to keep the temperatures down... I can highly recommend 2 tuners out there...

Also, when you enquire about havin your TD5 remapped, state your requirements.

Many, if not all tuners have several fuelling maps to cater your needs, ranging from a mild economy map that might not require the larger cooling properties of the performance intercooler all the way up to race spec "smokey" maps...

I had my TD5 sorted by Gary at Alive, when he asked me what i wanted i asked for smoother power and better economy. So far ive not been able to go on a good run as im busy at work but so far running around local little roads and a snails pace its gone from about 26-27mpg to about 30-31 mpg which isnt a million miles from a 20% increase. My best mpg before was 32.5mpg from one tank so im hoping to see the better side of 35 mpg now, will have to wait and see!

So, remap is what? 500 quid?

If you drive for economy after that - lets me optimistic and say you get a 20% increase in economy.

tank size for a 90 - 13.2 imperial gallons so at todays prices around £84 (140 a litre or £6.36 per gallon). If you averaged 28 mpg before, you get 33.6 post remap driving sensibly.

before: 369 miles per tank (har har)
after 443 miles per tank (yeah right)

a benefit of 74 miles. or 2.2 gallons per tank.

2.2 gallons is £14

cost of remap is 500 quid divided by the benefit £14 = 35 tanks of fuel to get that benefit.

so you would need to drive 35 x 443 = 15,500 miles to see the benefit.

This assume that you always drive for economy for those 15,500 miles, get that MPG (33.6), never tow or go uphill, and of course that fuel prices remain the same.

It's a no from me.

Had a remap (not by Alive) done, and loved it.

Then went and met Gary (Alive Tunning) at Billing. He remapped my Td5 again, and WOW, what difference, much better power delivery, less smoke and lower exhaust temps (better for engine).

But more importantly for you, much better on fuel, even when using the power.

Even my wife said "why don't they make them like this"

I can assume that you have not driven one that has been remapped, if you drive one you would soon change your mind.

Biggest shock for me was how much quieter it became, let alone smoother, and easier drive.

If your local, give me a shout and have a go of mine.
