I would hope that most people would at least be planning on keeping their Defender for more than 15,000 or 20,000 miles, at which point it would at least have theoretically paid for a £500 tune. It's a good point, that custom remaps will more than likely see a better fuel economy, if that's what you asked for, rather than a chip, or preset tune.
My uncle until recently had a 2003 110 SW, which he used for commercial towing, and he splashed out big time getting a custom tune from Alive taking it to 220hp, which needless to made it go like a rocket, but because he wasn't all that bothered by economy at that time, he actually got less mpg because of it, doing a hell of a lot over the limit on dual carriageway stretches. If he hadn't had a leaded right foot, he probably would have got 35 or so out of it, but the temptation is always going to be there, especially with something that powerful, to use all of it, and so chances are you won't wreak the economy benefits out of it... 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top |
