It's not so much what it's earthed to, it's more the earthing point itself. It's all very well connecting it to the bodywork but if you do it through a paperclip you are soon going to start frying things Just think about the smallest cross-sectional area that the current is having to travel through. This will almost certainly be at the connection point. Big bolt = ok. Small twiddly bullet connector/rusty things = not ok. |

Yeah! My dick's a kipper! And.... the cheque's in the post! Phillistines that's what they are! For goodness sake let's lay this to rest! Are you sitting comfortably? O.K. let's begin..... Power = Voltage X Current Therefore the total power rating for your Heatshot ignoring 'Diversity' (too complicated and too tanked to explain! 'PM' me or Google it if you want to know what 'Diversity' is. On reflection don't 'pm' as I probably won't get back before 2015) and the characteristics of any thermostat it may have is...... let me think....one ale too many as I'm in drydock in Portsmouth and been on the lash.... Power = 12 X 50 which is 'erm......Oh I know (hand up! ) 600Watts. Without a good earth you could potentially generate in layman's terms nearly the equivalent of 2/3 of a single bar fire of heat at the poor earth connection. As stated do not just 'nail it on' anywhere. If you offroad even your engine earth cannot be deemed as being a good earth. Check it first! Hopefully there is no ambiguity or doubt in my retort! As a footnote when fitting my subwoofer what I 'presumed' to be a good earth was not! My presumption was based on the fact I was a sparky and knew a good earth when I saw one! I was wrong and should have 'belled it out' (checked it with a meter first!). Even pros make mistakes! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Thank you! Was a little delicate this morning and learnt another BIG lesson in life! In dry dock you have to go shoreside to poo and it can be quite a long way to go! Do NOT leave it until the last minute to go....get all the way to the pot and find there's no poo roll! (Thought at one stage I was going to fill my boilersuit!) Mental note made.....Take a roll with you next time and every time you go to poo! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Mal, you don't need to carry a loo roll about with you all day as you only really need one piece of loo paper, simply take one sheet of loo paper and fold it in half then fold it in half again. Put one of the two folded corners into your mouth and rip off a small section and leave it clasped in you teeth. Now unfold the sheet of loo paper and you will have a nice hole in the middle. Now place your finger of choice through said hole and use your finger to wipe your ass clean, remembering to clasp firmly any lodged tagnuts. When finished wiping simply grab the paper with your free hand and wipe the offending finger clean. Now that bit of paper you kept in your mouth earlier now comes in very handy for cleaning under the finger nail, remembering of course to use your spare hand to retrieve paper from mouth, otherwise you end up with shi**y breath. Hope this is of help and remember you can also carry two or three spare sheets incase you get caught short again Brian. |

Lorryman,
You must be bl00dy joking....Curry night in Weatherspoons Southsea..... quaffing Stowford Press, Magners and Strongbow and any other 'Central heating for tramps' cider I can lay my hands on.....Full English breakfast in the hotel at 7am next morning.....by 8am latest I can be found in trap 3 pooing like a ferret.....I could theoretically pebble dash a 10 foot high wall at 15 paces..... Pull between legs til brown line stops is the only well-proven method to get one's crimper clean.... If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Damn 'Daisychainers' get veverywhere....Portsmouth is awash with 'em. Double lock the door with another Ex Crab (Ex-RAF such as myself) on sentry duty outside with a pickaxe handle normally frightens them off! Ask he did though! Think this thread was finished anyway! Tried Lorryman's theory out this morning (no alcohol consumption last night) it does in fact work a treat! for a thread with a fairly unpromising title, actually it's turned out OK - possibly a tad more detail than we might have anticipated
