Engine out - wiring ?
Hi - I'm in the process of removing the engine in my 2009 Puma 2.4 to change the chassis, and stuck with disconnecting the engine loom - I'm unsure how much needs to be removed/disconnected. I have checked all the connectors on the loom from the ECU via the injectors etc down to the alternator - all the connectors undo easily except the alternator main cables at the end of the engine loom which look very hard to get at . It looks like it might be possible to leave the main loom on the engine and disconnect at the ECU end where the other end of the loom seems to head into the cab via the bulkhead .
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance .

There is plugs at the bulkhead beside the expansion tank.

As above, leave the engine harness on the engine and disconnect at the ECU connector and starter motor.

Whilst the engine is out, it is sensible to check the engine harness for chafing damage - it is very common for there to be significant damage at any point where the harness is secured to the engine.

No, IIRC it connects to the starter en route to the battery.

There is a Defender electrical manual you can download from a search engine that you would probably find useful as it shows the connectors, pictures and locations.

You may also want to download the WSM for the vehicle, since this outlines step-by-step the engine removal procedure!
