There are so many variables it is an impossible question to answer. A laden vehicle on deep soft sand , it wouldn't surprise me if it dropped to 5mpg.
How soft? How laden? BFGs (even though you don't say what type) aren't sand tyres so won't be ideal. I would be very careful and take local advice and also check consumption before you pass the point of no return. |

I have done a bunch of sand driving (beach and desert). This is hard on man and machine. You need a lot of focus, it's not fast and with the extra load and low speed, not to mention typical hot environment, your cooling system needs to be top notch.
Personally I never worried too much about range. Start with a full tank and limit your time in the sand. Are you going to cross a desert you are worried about range? |
