Well I swapped the alternator over on old Miffy this afternoon and whilst I was in there I decided to take a look at this pulley bearing.

Short answer... Job done...! This is a very very easy job to do. I did use a vice, but to be honest I could have done it with nothing more than a socket and a lump hammer.

There are no circlips to worry about. It is just a case of pressing the old bearing out and pressing the new one in.

To remove all you need is a 1 1/4" socket. It fits perfectly onto the bearing casing without fouling on the pulley. It is a friction fit so the first bit is a little tight, but easily removed with a vice by pushing the socket through the pulley.

Clean up the pulley. Stick it in some boiling water for 10 minutes and then tap the new bearing into place. Make sure it is seated properly.

Refit to the vehicle.

The old bearing (no name or markings) had previously dried out completely and as such had a lot of axial play in the bearing. I cleaned and repacked with grease until I could do this job.

Having done it and found the bearing to use, if your pulley is in good shape then this is a very easy cost effective DIY job. No need to replace the whole thing anymore.

Good luck with the pulleys. Look for axial play and listen out for a growling around the belts at idle Thumbs Up
