Upgraded washer jets & pump
Apologies if this has been done already but a search this evening didn’t throw up anything relevant.

I am looking to upgrade the washer jets on the 110 & have pretty much decided on fitting Disco jets on the bonnet, heated or otherwise not yet decided.

Question is, will the existing pump be up to servicing a pair of twin jet nozzles? - it barely has enough about it to get the two dribbles half way up the windscreen at the moment.

Thinking about options there appear to be two:

1) replace the existing pump with a high capacity one like those used in headlamp washers; or,

2) use the existing pump to feed one of the twin jet nozzles & use the pump for the rear washer jet to feed the other.

Has anyone done this already & if so which route did you go down? I don’t even know if I have the rear washer pump fitted to the reservoir on my DCPU or if it will be the same capacity as the one for the front screen?

As they used to say on TV - “answers on a postcard please”.

Thanks - that was actually part of my motivation for the idea, just not sure that the existing pump will be up to the job based on its performance with the current set up... Question

I doubled up on the original jets fitted into the spare wiper holes. Got excellent performance from this. This is with original pump. So if yours is poor already I would plan on replacing it when you change the jets. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

Pity DDE don’t have a heated version of their washer jets, look nicely made.

I have a dual setup on my 2008 puma.

The original pump is more than adequate for this set up.

My nozzles never get frozen but i do use quality screenwash i believe to -30 degrees

Last year i’ve fitted the heat shot. Excellent piece of kit. In the winter the front screen is quickly defrosted and in the summer it get rid of all the bugs Or at least most of them.

So if you OWN a puma there could be another problem. Dying pump Or perhaps Some clogging somewhere?

On my puma i’ve got 2 pumps for front and rear. I see no (technical) problem to use them both for the front. Or split the passenger side with the back one. Bus as i have said on mine it works great a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover

Blackwolf recently showed how he'd fitted a bigger pump from a Disco2 to his washer bottle with a machined adapter from, I think, Optimill. This was to serve headlight washers but the principal would be the same for screen washers. However, I'm pleasantly surprised how powerful the washers are on my recently acquired Puma so, as others have said, you may have a problem with your pump. Darren

All the pressure you could possibly want. TDCi twin pump reservoir fitted with (on the left) a Disco2 type headlamp washer pump for the screenwasher, and (on the right) a Rover 45 headlamp washer pump for the headlamp washers. These pumps are identical apart from the outlet angle and the Rover 45 pump is used to allow clearance for the hose to pass the lower-mounted Disco pump (lower-mounted so the headlamp washers run out before the screen washers). The mounting hardware for the pumps was supplied by Optimill. The pumps are fitted with the correct quick-release connectors (ex-Disco2) for the hoses.

This is what I've had on my 90 since I bought it nearly 20 years ago with no problems!

I've often wished I could easily fit heated jets (I fitted heated D3 jets to my D2 with great effect!) but reckon I'd have to fit them nearer the front of the bonnet so as to get them to reach the screen! A TDci bonnet would help here though. The extra distance would, I think, dratically reduce their effectiveness and look a bit daft too.

There is, I believe, a heated washer pump set up on the market which looks great but I think it's quite pricey!

Sometimes the brass tiny holes in the housing become blocked particularly if you live in a hard water area. Before you, do anything just poke a sewing needle down the jets in case they have become clogged. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
