United Kingdom 2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Java Black
Rear door not opening
Hi all,

Just got the defender back from its full service - thought I would get one done as only bought it last week. Good clean bill of health, other than a half a half being required soon and a wheel sensor. Will get that sorted.

Annoyingly, the boot has stopped opening from the outside. It will do it from the inside though. I’ve tried looking up but can’t seem to find anything, even though I suspect it’s common. Keep getting in for on discos.

Any suggestions before I take it back to the service place? Would rather fix myself! Was thinking of blasting wd40 up from the handle to see if it loosens anything. Can hear movement from
The central locking. Also see the locking latch move on the inside, but it seems to drop them move back up.

Any help much appreciated!

I am in the same boat. I suspect the internals need dismantling. Puma 110" SW

I’ve just been out and done a little bit of investigation. It opens fine from the inside. Guessing it is whatever the outer handle attaches to, it’s just not quite moving things enough.

Is there a known easy repair for this? Assuming if I disassemble the mechanism, I might be able to put thing a back in the right place?

Child locks work the other way around, i.e. stops it being opened from the inside. Darren

Worth squirting a bit of lube inside it, they just get tired and worn out though.

Tried stripping apart, cleaning and lubricating. Rear handle still not providing enough movement to fully disengage latch.

Ordered new part from Masa 4x4. They’re not super speedy are they!
