Driver’s Door Lock Button can’t be locked
Hi - picked up my 2011 90 this morning, and delighted with it, but one small problem.

The car central locks using the fob, but the drivers door button goes down then pops back up. It can’t be manually pushed down fully either. Door barrel appears to be seized and can’t be turned.

I’m assuming an issue with the mech inside the door, but as I prepare for my first Defender repair, any advice very gratefully received!!

Thanks in advance.

Is it definitely closing fully. Have you tried operating the latch by hand (tool) to make sure the latch is going fully round (2 clicks) then operating the CL.

There is so much play in the "heath robinson" linkage contraption you will find behind the door card that if it gets a bit stiff in places there will be an attempt for the solenoid/actuator to move things, but it just won't have enough "pull" to achieve it. If you take the door card off you'll see what needs a bit of grease and where - also I tend to give the solenoid a bit of wd40 as well.

Not a difficult job.

It is known for these lock barrels to corrode internally and seize. The alternative explanation is that there has been a screwdriver inserted into the lock and mangled it (as has happened with Miffys lock). The only solution is to replace the door lock.

It is also a good opportunity to check over the other linkages in the door and perhaps to add some sound proofing in there too.
