Regarding the centre diff lock..lack of use probably locked up the mechanisms. Massage gently start with the little lever on the transfer case and work your way up through the linkage.

Make it a habit to occasionally shift high low and difflock in normal use...

Blackwolf - thanks for inputting. Roamerdrive are very specific about using GL4.

Geobloke - exactly as you state. Photos below are from the installation guide and of their trans box drain plug, which I’ll fit when I check levels after a run.

TexasRover - thanks for the detail on fluids.
You asked earlier about fit of the Roamerdrive shifter. It’s somewhere between feeler guage and interference fit - bloody tight. The internal foam ring was already cut and everything works fine.

I’ve run everything for 10 minutes as fitting instructions with high/low in neutral and all good. Not road tested yet.

Warming everything up and using the clutch I managed to free up the diff-lock linkages which are now well greased.

Added the first of the sound deadening.

Is it worth doing the trans tunnel?

Thanks

A small amount of post holiday progress to the roof.

Silent coat for sound deadening and Dodo Thermo liner on top for acoustics and insulation. Apparently.

Floor and arches tomorrow. Everything's a hammer.

A bit more deadening and Armaflex insulation to the roof beams. Need to complete around the alpine windows as the black tape should hide the ‘loose’ fit of the headlining.

Hopefully stopped any condensation.

I need to figure how to do the doors then start thinking about the fit out. Everything's a hammer.

Doing very much the same now that the new bulkhead is in place, haven't tackled the roamerdrive yet, it's sitting in the box and on the to do list. 23my p400e x dynamic hse, fuji white, towing pack, comfort and convenience, e diff, activity key, 3 zone climate, cold climate and a host of accessories. Now gone.

While you have it all down, I recommend you have a quick look at each corner of your roof where it meets the windscreen. I was in the same position last week but I was replacing the whole windscreen and frame with a heated one I had lying around (ongoing tinkering) and found the screws in the corners had undone and created a little gap that caused whistling at speed.

I changed the screws with hex head same size (easier tightening) and used locktite to secure them (time will tell). Since I had the windscreen out obviously I also had the opportunity to reseal the top and bottom with the various new seals. Actually made quite a bit of difference in noise. In general I find Defenders respond well to incremental improvements, which makes a all the more satisfying.

Prior to any insulation install I have booked some great improvements with the following

Engine tune, belt pulleys, exhaust, etc, etc
    Wheel bearings, possible diff, driveshaft
    Suspension, shocks, tyres, etc
Any gap or opening around windscreen, bulkhead, transmission tunnel, seatbox
Door seals (I find the original LR by far the best - $$)
    Roamer drive ($$)
Transfer case can whine - typically bearings.

Kiter 25 - Be sure to budget an age for the sound deadening and insulation (4+ days maybe).

In addition to a seam roller the other useful too I found is a plastic bicycle tyre lever to get into the corners.

Roamerdrive fitting isn't too difficult. I went for a new bearing race to save the grief of removal and refitting of the old one. Also means I can switch back if I ever want/need to.

TexasRover - I was rather hoping Roamerdrive would be top of the list of improvements. Certainly top of the invoices.

I have yet to try it other than in neutral as I need to fit the new seats.

I'm checking for water entry as I go, certainly lots of potential.

The Roamer drive is (for my car at least) the most effective in reducing the noise on motor way driving (more than 55-60 mph) by a long way. However its expensive so in terms of bangs for the bucks... probably better to buy some ear defenders..

Geobloke - ditto that, also now covered the trans tunnel.

TexasRover - I use earplugs on the motorbike, hopefully not the defender after all this effort/cost.

60 sheets of Silent Coat covers everything on a 110 except the 5 doors and the seat box cover plates.

I’ve bought another box to finish the job, so plenty to do the bonnet.

Now need to figure how much insulation I can get under the ‘fitted’ rubber mats.

Then the seats and a test drive. Everything's a hammer.
