Iggle is correct, mine does it, it is normal, I believe it is an anti stall feature, I also believe it is called Rev Hang.

I assumed it would be normal as there are benefits to it doing it but I thought it was certainly worth checking... especially seen as she is already at the Dealership having something else fixed!
I know that the Nissan 350 / 370Z have a feature whereby the revs are held between the gears to allow for a smoother transition.. therefore by the transit of properties... we drive a Nissan sportscar! |

Yes perfectly normal, the idea behind it being to reduce drive line shock loading [ie clunking as the slack is taken up amongst the various components]. Many people these are not used to changing gear smoothly in what is, after all, a fairly sloppy transmission as they have grown accustomed to slick changes in modern car gearboxes. Steve.

I must admit it confused be a bit when we picked up the wifes new 2.2 this March.
I assumed it was to help keep the turbo spooled up which virtually stops spinning in my TD5 when you take the foot off the throttle What I dont like in the 6 speed box is the POP in and out of the gears, whereas the old R380s smoothly go from gear to gear. I also find the gear lever position confusing hopping from from the daily TD5 to swambos TDCi its never where your left hand expects to find it or the direction you expect it to go in! Add into the mix the spare car, an old D1 and all three are completly different. I do like the 2.2's Anti stall, it feels much more confident than the TD5 though He who dies with the most toys wins Defender 90 & 110, S1 80", Disco 1, S111 88 LRSOC & CVLRC |

Yes, I get it rarely too and mine is a 2.4 as well.
I think it occurs when you make a gear change a little quicker than you should ideally do so. Of course, if you've been driving a 6sp Def for a few years your pretty experienced hence the rare occourance of it occurring. Usually is 2nd 3rd and 4th as you say. I would worry, completely normal - as normal as a Defender could be. |

If it's a 2.4 and you are getting rev hang it isn't normal, it is caused by a failing clutch pressure switch. More than likely your clutch fluid has never been replaced and is full of moisture.

I have changed my clutch switch and I am still getting the annoying Rev hang on my 2.4
I have bridged it to try that and also no luck. Any other tips? Is it worth changing the master cylinder? 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS. |

I know it sounds daft, but check your brake light bulbs - I seem to recall that a failed brake light can, bizarrely, cause this on the 2.4!

I’ve just been out to check and I do not have brake lights!
Side lights, indicators and reverse lights all working, apart from brake lights… 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS. |

Electrical side isn’t my strong point - can you point me in the direction of the brake light fuse as a starting point to check, please? 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.
