90 Commercial safety issue UPDATE THERE IS A SWITCH!!

So, this happened to me having just taken delivery of my brand new 90 Commercial

l reversed the vehicle up a customer's drive which is on a slope. l opened the rear door and got inside to look in my tool box for a part.

The rear door then closed on me, probably because the wind moved it and l was in a hill.

I am told the 90 Commercial has an interior rear door release, but where is it? lt was dark outside and of course the lights in the back went out, leaving me in darkness.

My phone was in the front of the vehicle and l was basically trapped in the back of the vehicle. Eventually the customer came outside to see where l had got to, having seen me arrive, and was able to release me from my tiny prison.

lf this had happened out in the wilds somewhere l could be trapped there until the air ran out.

UPDATE THERE WAS A SWITCH ALL ALONG BUT IN A DIFFERENT PLACE, POINTED OUT TO ME BY SOMEONE ON THIS FORUM WHO FOUND IT ON THEIRS.
MY ONLY DEFENCE IS THAT THE DEALER DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS THERE EITHER

Scary! Where was the key? If you had it with you, you could have pressed the panic button for 3 seconds to sound the alarm. Also, if global opening and closing is enabled in vehicle settings pressing and holding the lock button would have opened all windows and sunroof. In the Commercial if the front door windows were open you’d have had some air at least.

The iGUIDE recommends not leaving the key in the vehicle, but would be better carried on your person anyway.

l'll check but l don't think mine has that fitted.

After l was released l looked everywhere for a button.

I definitely know the 110 does NOT have a rear door release button.

This was one of the very first mods I did on my 110.

can't see LR would have deleted the switch on later manufacture...

You can get out of the side doors on the 110.

No switch on mine, that's really bad and in my opinion a dangerous omission

I stand corrected

Whilst I understand my 110 has rear doors, I did it for convenience, as I will be sleeping in it.

well here is a close-up photo, which shows where j77 highlighted it,

So is the wiring behind the side trim ?

Does LR supply the switch within their 'Parts Department' ?

All worth investigating, I think.

l have been told that this switch is "no longer fitted to the Defender"

I consider this a serious safety issue, what if a child were to get in the back and close the door? l've contacted Land Rover and have had a response to say they are "looking into it" and will get back to me.

In the US Federal law dictates that an internal release handle coloured yellow should be fitted to the "trunk" or any compartment a human could become trapped in.

That Land-Rover has not done this suggests a failure of due diligence and lack of a robust risk-assessment process.

Poor to unacceptable.

Maybe a note to the HSE as for business use the vehicle could be considered to be a workplace.
