Coincidentally, last week Google recommended me this article from Road & Track where they discuss roll cages in street cars with Safety Devices' Design Engineer, Chris Platt:
R&T: Don’t Put a Roll Cage in Your Street Car

Regardless, is it at all worth asking SD if they would consider a group buy discount with various cage models given all the interest?
(Their L260 external cage has been on my shopping list for a while now... Whistle) Stuart

I did ask SD for a group buy on cages a couple of years ago (but was for.a BMW race car) and from memory they said 5 cages would be needed to be purchased (made you into a kind of dealer for their stuff, but getting 5 cages at the time... Maybe this time could be different. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details

Worth noting that most of the disbenefits mentioned in the article are not relevant to most Defender fitments, since they are talking predominantly about internal cages. Whilst an internal hoop immediately behind the front row of seats could undoubtedly present a hazard to your bonce in a crash, so could the roof collapsing. You are likely already to have had your head caved in by the protruding upper bolt for the seat belt, strategically placed six inches from your ear, which is a feature I have long felt vaguely uneasy about.

Agree with above Mr Wolf.

I've been in conversation with those at SD on this matter in the past as well as with other forum members (Thread).
General consensus for me personally from both SD and owners is to go without the internal hoop which obviously is a compromise in comparison. Sad

SD email response wrote:
Due to the requirements and adjustments needed to accommodate your comfort and safety, we would look at recommending the L260 as this does not come with a B hoop and therefore would be more suitable for your needs

If people show interest I can ask re group buy Question Stuart

If there was to be a group buy, I would be interested. The cage I'd want would be a full external for a Puma 110SW with the internal hoop, offhand I'm not sure of the model number.

I bought mine from Paddocks in the end, they were the cheapest at £1795 plus VAT and delivery about a month ago. At the time this was about the same price as someone I know could get as a trade price from Britpart.

Thank you. Paddocks now at £2166 +VAT/del thanks to Truss and her trussty sidekick, Kwasi Mojo.

Craddock at £1995 +VAT/del and LRParts.net at £1993 +VAT/del seem to be the least expensive at present. Both are a bit vague on delivery...

Whitbread is about £1600 ncluding vat for cage only

SD as above is about £2K PLUS VAT so a few quid more

A group buy with either would probably knock a hundred or two off. 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold)

I think its worth starting new thread for this. As the discussions are maybe missed as this thread started as a wanted thread?

Maybe suggesting a possible group buy for a whitbread or P&P cage.

It seems someone has already been inquiring about a group buy / slight change of cage at Whitbread. |Is this person happy to take this further if we get a minimum order about?

I'm happy to contact them if not and will ask about discount / fitting etc

thoughts? New thread?

As an off topic.... if anyone does buy a cage and self fit, certainly in the case of the P&P ones, throw away the template that you can download & drill the mounting holes.

I stupidly used theirs, drilled my rear tub prior to getting it all resprayed, and when came to fitting the cage the holes were about 40mm out.

So my suggestion is to fiot the cage onto the bodywork (on top of masking tape to protect your paint), get the front hoop positioned accurately (as these tend to be the non adjustable end as the vertical bracket bolts to the bottom of the bulkhead where the wings bolt up) then mark the rest of the holes moving backwards. The rear brackets on both cages I've installed (P&P on my 110 and a SD on my old 90) were adjustable.

Please note:

* Interested in hearing about a deal from SD as much as WB. WB price with fitting, SD collect only.
* Happy to pay a deposit but would not be able to visit UK to fit/collect the cage any earlier than spring 2023. As such the chosen supplier would need to know there may be a >6mth delay in my full payment.
* Despite having a DCPU, I would be looking for a 110SW variant. In this regard SD has some advantage as I believe I could unbolt the rear SW tubing and retrofit DC tubing at any point in the future, were I to want a change in look etc. Something to bear in mind if you are also a DCPU owner. Monsieur Le Grenadier
