Centre Exhaust replacement 2.2
On my original exhaust (2.2)I’ve just had to bung a small hole so it needs replacing. I’ve read that it maybe better replaced with a straight through section. These seem to range from £75 up to a couple of hundred quid.
Will a more expensive one line up and fit better than the cheaper one?
Any recommendations and experiences on what and where to buy appreciated.

Thanks Ron.

Go Straight through. Lose the weight and bulk. Any exhaust fabrication shop will easily put new piece of stainless and clamps on. Or of course there are numerous online offering this piece.

I bought a straight through center section for my 90. Although I do not know the manufacturer, it was on the lower end of price.
Went to fit it last week, and the flanges and mount hangers were miles away. I tried to fit still, but then the rear exhaust was so crooked that it was pointing into the mudflap.

To get a proper fit, I had to cut off both flanges, and re weld them, re position (just bending) the front hanger, and practically re manufacture the rear hanger.

Here is a picture while work was in progress. I sacrificed my daughters kiddies chair back to use as a jig Laughing

Bottom line, it was not worth the savings. And the flanges are mild steel not stainless. The tube is stainless though. Was not that I had purchased long time ago, I would have had returned it. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

In for a penny, in for a pound: do the lot! I went straight though from cat back. It’s no louder, all the muffling is done in the DPF, it breathes noticeably better, revs more freely and sounds better.

Your absolutely right. Did this when I got my 2.2 in 2012. Sounds great when it does a re-gen👍

£200 Shocked the only thing that’s glowing at that price for a piece of stainless pipe should be embarrassment.

Thanks, I’ve got no issues paying more for quality, I’ll look up Demand. Probably end up with the rear section as well.

I got mine from Twisted. Great quality, probably a touch cheaper than Demand but not by much. Where abouts are you based?

Dropped in this morning at a local garage. My pal had a look in the pit and suggested doing both sections middle and back and don’t go cheap or you’ll be doing them again in a couple of years time. I was a bit concerned as I pull a caravan and the next trip is in early September but he reckons the small split I filled with JB weld was a good job and the rest of the system still has a bit of life in it.
I’ll have a look at Demand and Twisted and get both sections done.
Based up north Tyne and Wear.
Cheers.

Stagshaw on the team valley have/had a good reputation for custom work and fabrication. Might be worth giving them a shout.
