Thanks for all the information Co1! Would you say that the only way the 705D can be installed is by cutting that bracket? I'm a bit wary of doing so & contemplating going for the 690 even though it hasn't all features I'm after as that's far shorter. I'm presuming that this bracket is structural? |

I think the bracket you're referring to is the radio support bracket: this has a hole in the middle to receive the rubber ferrule on the back of many head units, and is held in place by four plastic trim fixings. It can be easily removed without (in my experience) any adverse effects. I've had one in and out at various times, to accommodate different head units.

Correct, it’s is the bracket that supports the back of the normal head unit, so no issue in removing it.
