If you wanted to check the torque when there is only access with a spanner you can easy improvise something with a spring gauge/luggage scales hooked into the spanner.
Have done this a few times previously. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

There is absolutely no need to use a torque wrench on a fitting of that kind. All you need is "common sense" (and if you lack this, don't mess with your vehicle)!

Thought I would resurrect this thread rather than starting a new one. Can you post a picture of your "correct" front ARB setup now that you have rearranged it. Was it necessary to purchase any additional parts in addition to the britpart kit to install both front and rear ARB's? Now that a few months have passed, do you feel a noticeable difference in the ride? I am looking at installing ARB's as my 90 has an noticeable lean when going around tight bends out on country roads. 2006 90 originally registered in Italy |

Well it was a partial success. The front end went in a treat ( once I put the roll bar in the right way round )
The back end failed as with the ARB bolted in,there was onlty a few mmm between the ARB and the fuel tank shield. If the ARB were to move at all and given the state of the tank shield it would probably fall apart. Tried both a britpart ARB and a LR ARB, happened with both of them. Plan is to make up some blocks of metal with 4 appropriately spaced holes and bolt the rear ARB to the chassis via them thereby giving some space for ARB movement Photos tomorrow of the front when its light. Do you notice a difference ? Yup certainly do. even with just the front ARB installed. For a 90 no, you dont need anythig else. For a 110 there are different brackets at the back and different bushes Santa - 1977 Series 3 - new chassis, tub, disc brakes,SU Carb Gertie - 1999 110 TD5 - like a Phoenix from the ashes back on road... almost Effie - 2004 110 TD5 County |

Tow bar spacers are the correct size for this if you want an off the shelf solution. Fitting 2 inch spacers was a common mod when fitting a 2 inch lift but for your application it sounds like something much thinner would suffice. Darren

LRA said it. Spacers are the way to do this. With the X-Eng Reflex kit and a +2" lift I have had to fit a 40mm spacer on Miffy to clear the fuel tank.
ARB works as it should |

If possible can you post a picture of each of the brackets used to mount the ARB? I just want to make sure that I have all of them on my 90. I assume there are 2 each side, front and back? Thanks. 2006 90 originally registered in Italy |

Hi Jhollow. Yes there are two chassis mounts per side, front and rear. Plus the two axles mounts per axle as well.
The axle mounts look like this: Where the castle nut is. Click image to enlarge and the chassis mounts look like this: See where the ARB bush mounts to the chassis. Click image to enlarge |

If you do not have the chassis mounts then YRM have the brackets you can weld on yourself - https://yrmit.co.uk/product/front-chassis-...r-classic/

FWIW when I fitted a standard ARB onto my 110, I had no need for a spacer under normal use. Just as Geobloke's picture above.
However when the car was "loaded" for camping - kit + roof tent etc - I found that the ARB would then foul the tank guard, though not by much. Maybe the heavy duty springs I had fitted at that stage were limiting how much the suspension would lower. For me, at that stage I fabricated a 10mm aluminium spacer and that has mostly done the job. Just recently (with softer springs and probably more stuff in the car) I found that I was getting a bit of noise again offroad. Once the car is unloaded - no issue. But as I am also considering the Deflex bar, I figure I'll sort it out again at that stage. Superb modification the X-Deflex https://foundry4x4.co.uk/index.php?route=p...duct_id=77 Coupled with the standard front ARB (plus SuperPro bushes) makes for a wonderful drive on the road, even a "spirited" one if the circumstance calls for it. Then when the need arises and the road forward requires a little more flex a quick turn of the hub and away you go. The best of both Worlds... |
