Wise ones
So I want to change my drive flange bolts to the Allen key socket head style, I seem to recall a few gents on here have done the same and I’m wondering what the spec of the bolts are, I’d like stainless but I guess they’re a bit soft? Anyhoo any tips are much appreciated. Wes Oh woe, oh woe My crusty old landrover, It will not go. |

Think col1 fitted some nice Titanium ones, from memory stainless a4 and not a2. That gives you close to the 8.8,, but only from what I read on here Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

There is space to drill and tap to M12, then a stainless M12 A2-80 or A4-80 cap screw will be as strong as the original grade M10 10.9 bolts. But I would not go that route my self on a standard truck.
But is an option that few with lockers and high quality halfshafts take, although of course they stick to the higher grade cap screws. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Like Blackwolf, I used galvainsed cap head bolts on mine, with matching spring washers:

This is not correct. Whilst on paper they may have the same strength, different behaviour in tensile vs ultimate strength makes stainless bolting a no go. And not even going into the topic of ductility and fatigue. m |

I did the same as LRA and Blackwolf, mine were black I just keep them covered in a light film of ACF 50 to stop any surface corrosion and are hidden behind the boosts on mine and not on display anyway.
I wouldn’t go Ti or SS on these either due to the application they are for. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 Last edited by custom90 on 10th Apr 2022 9:50pm. Edited 1 time in total |

I will add that the thicker flanges, as on the 10 spline axles are M10x50. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Jesus Christ LRA. How clean? Pleeeease tell me that photograph was taken immediately after fitting a brand new wheel, tyre, flange and bolts, and not how it looks on a daily basis after ‘normal use’?
