Cruise Control Install So i thought I would produce this as I found lots of discussion about how easy it was to install a cruise control kit, the one that mobile centre and many of their resellers offer, but no installation guidance. The instructions included in the kit were not great, didn't seem to reflect my MY15 2.2 Puma exactly and didn't explain how to get to the wires that you need to splice into. No apologies for the idiots guide, I always benefit from an idiots guide as it helps with confidence! Personally I did not find it an easy install and you need a lot of patience. Firstly, I recommend finding somewhere to locate the control box. The only place I could find was behind the speaker and on the side of the dash as shown in this photo, don't fix it in place with the sticky pad until you have completed the test drive, but once you have found the location for this you can run the cables out from here. Click image to enlarge Next, find all of the cables that you need to splice into, in no particular order: 1) Clutch switch in the engine bay, using one of the spare grommets in the bulkhead, near the water reservoir, use a wire coat hanger to pull the relevant wire through to the engine bay and splice into the right wire connecting to the switch. See purple wire in this photo Click image to enlarge 2) Brake light switch (two cables) can be found under the cover shown in this photo, it can be released by unclipping the bottom first and then the top. Run the wires along the same route as the existing switch wires, I had to use the coat hanger again to feed it through and then spliced into the correct wires (second photo on it's side!) And obviously plug back in! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The next two need the instrument cluster and the cowling around the steering column to be removed as follows: A) Remove the two torx screws from the top cover and remove it Click image to enlarge B) Remove the two torx screws holding the trim over the cowling and remove revealing the two torx screws holding the instrument cluster in place Click image to enlarge C) Remove the two torx screws holding the instrument cluster in place and ease forward to access the plug Click image to enlarge D) Unplug the plug by first releasing the locking mechanism in black (sorry out of focus) and then remove the cluster completely Click image to enlarge E) Cut off the cable tie holding the outer casing of the plug and the wires in place and prize the black core out (sorry no further photos of this bit, but you need to get to it as there are two black and red wires but you need to see which goes to Pin 13) Click image to enlarge F) Remove the top of the steering column cowling by unscrewing the 4 phillips head screws from underneath, you will then see this Click image to enlarge 3) Ignition Live - so the instructions say to connect to the white Ign live at the back of the ignition block but even after loosening all of the dash I could get to the wire but it had no slack at all to get it to a place where it could be spliced (see how the moulded dash prevents access to this from the front, so I used my multimeter to find another Ign live cable (the one going to the indicators) in this photo Click image to enlarge 4) Speed control is Pin 13 in the instrument cluster block and as mentioned above, you need to find this as there are two black and red cables! I used a bulldog clip to hold wires together while I soldered them together Click image to enlarge Put the plug back together with a new cable tie (supplied and as with all splices tape up or shrink wrap Click image to enlarge 5) Throttle Plug this is the only plug and play part of this install! It is not easy to get to as there is a metal cover over it but you unplug the original plug and fit the the new one on the "Y" loom supplied. Due to the length of the loom there is no way to get the plugs out of the footwell so just tidy them up and feed the cable behind the insulation (removing the cover plate by the door) Sorry photo on its side Click image to enlarge Once all wired up, you need to fit the stalk by drilling a 12mm hole in the cowling, there are options here but I wanted mine to be visible and not behind the indicator stalk as I have seen some installed. As there is a led indicator on the stalk you should be able to see it so that you know if cruise is on and if it is active. You will need to test fit it a few times to get the angle and position correct to avoid it being too close to the dash. Click image to enlarge You have to feed the rainbow cable through the hole before attaching the plug on the end and then run the cable through to the control box. The set up sequence is as per instructions but PLEASE NOTE, there is no ON button, you just push the control stalk forward to turn on and then follow instructions. Then once set up, take a drive and test it out. It was a pain in the backside mainly due to the lack of clear instructions and some parts that were just impossible according to the instructions (Ign Live) but hopefully this will help. IT works a treat and will be great for long journeys. Good luck!

That is almost the same as what I did. A well thought out guide that will help others doing this little job Only some slight differences on my set up(to give options)... I cable tied the control box to green module close to where you put yours. For the ignition live I used the feed to the wiper switch as it was a bit easier on mine to get at. Dash cluster speedo wire is as said pin 13, I sent this picture to Mobile Centre at the time... I fitted my stalk on the left... http://www.defender2.net/forum/post450464.html#450464 Cheers, Kyle.

Great mod, yes......... for the courageous. And not much of a reason for me to install one, because 90% of my travel is local here and there is not a stretch of more than 500 m before the limit will change to something else.  You never actually own a Defender. Have fitted 3 kits now to past and present Defenders,, First one, on a 2009, gave problems when taking the speed pulse from behind the dash, as too weak, and would just not set up,,,,so was taken direct from the gearbox, All have been fitted the same way for the speed input since, First kit took a while, as that also had to be spliced into the throttle module,, (still have if anyone wants to make a offer !!) later MC kits, 2 hours max California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK

Checking autoscout.ch this morning found a very nice Def cabrio by Avus for sale. Has a very neat cruise control installed, and going by the name on the stalk, I found the supplier of those which is Swiss. Gonna check this out some time... Here is a few pictures. bpman Member Since: 21 May 2008 Location: Oslo Posts: 8069	I took the speed sensor from the gearbox like TJ, I was not brave enough to cut into the multi-wire loom that fits into the dash-pod - way to delicate for my mits I found the white ignition live on the ignition switch easy enough (at first i though it would be a pain but was easy!) other that that, i fitted mine the same way - been running it for 3-4 years now and it's staying on the truck

Resurrection Just fitted the Mobile Centre cruise control - easy but a bit time-consuming job and great instructions (though when setting up, the final beeps were low not high...works fine though). Brake pedal connection to Y harness is pretty tight but some rough handling did the trick I mounted it on the left as it's left hand drive and it's really comfortable. Thanks to Mobile Centre for the support and quick delivery (driving across Spain in the next few weeks ) Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
