With the engine ticking over and in neutral, depress and release the clutch pedal several times if it makes a loudish clunk repeat with the service manager stood next to it, then tell him you want a new clutch. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Thanks for that Willy,
I've just tried it. it clunks alright. not a normal sound. not something i'd notice when driving. is there a particular part that fails? I'm guessing it's a known fault then? "If it ain't sideways, you just ain't tryin'! |

Yes, bad clutchs, eventually the shunt springs in the clutch plate wear the holes they are mounted in, then they fall out, start with the clutch then see how the gearbox etc is. A good clutch won't make the clunk. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

So are the replacement parts the same or upgraded?
Oh, let me guess, its LR. They'll be the same parts! "If it ain't sideways, you just ain't tryin'! |

I believe there is an upgrade or two, someone will come along and put me right with the part numbers, may be worth checking with TLO (the large one) over on disco3 site, he is a Land Rover Parts guru and will give you the part number that should be fitted. He is very helpful just PM him explaining you are on Def2 and he will get back to you. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

I've got the exact same problems as you. Sometimes it feels like the driveline consists of a slack rubber band, nigh on impossible to achieve smooth gearchanges. Finally getting the clutch replaced in two weeks really hoping it to change things!

Umm, thinking about it the clutch wouldn't be responsible for any feeling of excessive play in the driveline. I'm not convinced that the clutch is OK but there's another fault here for sure.
It's in tomorrow so I'll keep you posted. "If it ain't sideways, you just ain't tryin'! |

You need to change the clutch by the sound of it anyway, so might as well start there. There where quite a few earlier Defenders that came out with loose drive propshaft bolts and missing grease nipples, which are both easy to check. You will be surprised how much difference a new clutch makes. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Mine has been in 4 times for shyte gearbox and clutch problems... Things are getting worse as time goes on, but I still have 15 months warranty left, so it looks like I'll be using it to its end..
Gonna leave it till the next service is due, and hopefully, things will be so bad, that it might just get fixed.... ... ,-------, .. I [__][_]|__ .. I __ |"_|"__| .. "(o)====(o)" ^^_-^-_^-^_^^^^^--^^^^ PAUL G7ALW 14.200 USB 26FB458 / 27.275 SSB |

he has not contacted me yet and i have not got a login for Def2 as of yet so heres what he needs to look out for so you could pass it back to him
Reply from TLO Clutch kit he needs is LR012199 this is the latest version of the clutch and can be identified by some white retainers on the sprong plate of the centre plate if you look at the centre plate flat you will see the centre spline hole around that is 4 square resesses on the older clutch these are black, on the new version of the clutch plate they are white HTH NIck _________________ Genuine Land Rover Parts supplier extraordinaire.. Mine does the same but when I last pointed this out to the workshop manager, he gave me the usual 'it's normal' line. How do I force them to replace it!? -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Burn the friction plate, i.e. make it slip until you start to smell like warm horse . It should not take that long Puma 110" SW
