the speed limiter is set whilst doing the PDI, you could invalidate your warranty if you get it removed. 2.4 90 XS

A "friend of mine" has a speed unlimiter box that sits between the tacho and the "brains" and can be disconnected almost invisibly.
The "brains" are told the vehicle is within speed but the tacho reads the higher speed correctly. Nobody is any the wiser. It really is an awesome bit of kit... but also an awesome price: almost 700 Euros (from www.matzker.de) However, "my friend" says it's worth every cent, even without other tuning ![]() Cheers, Matt Last edited by ZeDefender on 20th Sep 2011 10:57am. If you invalidate your warranty you would have no comeback with the dealer or Landrover in the event of any malfunction of the vehicle, they will just say you removed the speed limiter so you no longer have any warranty. It is also probably not a very good idea to exceed the limit set anyway, as the vehicle was hardly built for high speed performance. 2011 110 USW

I dont think they could argue that because you went fast your warranty no longer counts.
Same as if you modify the car with new tyres, rack, spots, bumpers, ladder etc etc There would have to be a provable direct link between the speed and the failure. Pom |

Something that I was pondering over in one of my frequent moments of boredom...
The rev limiter is sat at about 4500rpm, in top gear at 60mph it's doing 2000rpm, so... 60mph - 2000rpm 90mph - 3000rpm 120mph - 4000rpm 135mph - 4500rpm Would the gearbox/diffs/whatever actually be able to handle that sort of speed? I know I wouldn't want to attempt that sort of speed in a Defender anyway! |

no. aerodynamics being the main issue. drive drain wouldnt take it either.

Without a remap, which resets the speed limit to whatever the tuner deems appropriate the only other option is to change the speed setting in the instrument cluster at PDI. The only option which removes the speed limiter is the Saudi Arabia overspeed function which is set at PDI and you shouldn't be able to change that. There is an option to set the limiter at either 82mph or 87mph with certain diagnostic tools. My limiter was removed with the remap though I rarely go faster than 80mph as I'm conscious of the strain on the drivetrain and the consequences of a blowout at high speed.

As an alternative, I can assure you "my friend" has a box from Matzker which takes the signal from the tacho and tells the system it isn't going faster than e.g. 130 kph. The tacho reads the real speed normally but the system is told something else. No remap, no trace in diagnostics. "My friend's" defender (without tuning) goes smoothly up to 150+ kph, most importantly without that "constipated" feeling you usually get at the limited speed. The box can be removed, e.g. for servicing, and the wiring (5 discrete wires and a small connector) can be tucked up behind the instrument cluster. Believe me, it's brilliant, especially on German motorways where suddenly finding your speed "stop" can be a problem. p.s. I (er... I mean "my friend") also rarely go much above 145 kph but (he) hates being "constipated"... |

Only in emergencies ![]() Actually, the consumption cruising at 145/150 isn't that bad - I drove to Italy and got over 20 mpg... |
