Battery how big/small (or medium) can it be?
I’m not hot on electrical systems. Just wondering what is the smallest physical battery the Puma can use? Mine is massive (and maybe dead) but by chance I was watching a YouTube video last week and noticed the twin underseat battery set up many on here have done, but the batteries looked quite a bit smaller. No way my battery (a Varta something or other) would fit at 90 degrees to the seat and this version had two. So what’s the smallest physical battery a Puma can have? Can it have a smaller output as well? I’m not running anything off it, although I may add some LED spots to the roof rack at some point, but heavy draw I don’t think I will in the near future and if I did I’d add a second in the DC’s tub. Any thoughts? Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Don’t forget you live in a very cold climate so you’ll need a battery with a good output that isn’t going to fail after the first attempt of cold starting.

Or you could always park on a slope and with the ignition on bump start it when you leave home… Rolling with laughter Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

The gel batteries are smaller and can be mounted in any orientation, but costly. I run one, and now run two of them. On previous Defs I’ve had split charge, but I don’t require that now so just run two of them permanently joined.

A member was thinking of using a pair of NOCO lithium batteries
Might be worth contacting "mediamab" (sorry I don't know how to make a link to a member Rolling Eyes )

I had the battery dilemma, purely cost related as locally batteries are expensive.

One remark from a forum member... the ecu still needs power/voltage during cranking.. so keep that in mind. A few LEDs will not draw too much current, nothing compared to a current hungry motor. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I managed to fit the original Puma battery (LR badged Varta) as well as a Numax CXV30HMF.
Made my own battery tray to do this - was a bit of a squeeze but it fit in the original under-seat area

Me too: original Varta 90 Ah + Ective EDC 100Ah. The tray needs to lift them up, then they fit in.

Both are the same size. Height is important.
353 (L) x 175 (W) x 190 (H) mm

I've seen a setup with 240mm height for the aux battery, but don't think there was a proper tray. Looked dodgy.

I´ve fitted 2x Banner Running Bull AGM 92Ah. It is a little tight but fits pretty well. You´ll need a custom made holding system. Size of the batteries is 353 x 175 x 190 mm - H8 DIN (L x B x H)

A buddy drives around with a single 80Ah AGM, without any problems.

110 Amps from John Deere.
Always on stock for their harvesters.
Just go there and buy one.

The height is near the limit of the box. A perfect fit.

However thé auxiliary battery is an AGM battery

The smallest solution I use to start my engine has the size of a chocolate bar
