Have you any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC’s) ? These would help.
One thing it could be is a failing crankshaft position sensor, but I would have thought that would have registered a DTC and perhaps a check engine light.

How old is the starter motor?

Also VCV?
The latter is less likely to be too much of a culprit but may add to it.

There is the crank position sensor as well, but as far as I know that tends to either work or completely fail.

Glow plugs, are they working? ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

It could be a range of things, and can get costly if changing out components only to find the issue remains.

Another cheap thing to do is clean the MAP sensor, these can get a bit gunked up on the 2.4.

Also run some millers diesel power ecomax through a few tanks to help clean up injectors etc.

And really check all earths are clean and well torqued up.

Very true, I’ve found checking and doing the things that cost the least the best approach.
Typically that will result in a good outcome in its self. 👍🏻 ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️
