What's the flow like without the jet attached?
That will tell you where the problem is. |

There is a one way valve that can get in it and restrict flow.

Also check the connectors at the washer bottle end as they can need cleaning up. While i had my dash off i took the nozzle from the centre hole and added another nozzle utilising the 2 blanked hols for LHD vehicles. Divided the pipe evenly and both nozzles work OK off the one pump. Jeff

I took mine out. Now I have less problems with frozen nozzles but the first time it takes a while before getting water on the screen. Now the dirt is all over the window before there is water to wash it off. Do you mind me asking what the outcome was? Just fitted a CSI parts washer jet and have the same snag - lack of ‘oomph’ so I’ve ordered their pump.

when i purchased my TD5, the previous owner had managed to pinch the flexible pipe when refitting the dash restricting the washer flow

I just changed the washer jet on my defender. The part is in two pieces so potentially you may not have to do the fiddley bit behind the dash as the section with the jets can be taken off the threaded section. It is a bit awkward to do as you feel you might brake it when doing it.
I separated them using a tiny crow bar. On the truck I used a thin piece of wood to protect the truck paintwork. I just applied gradually increasing pressure until it separated. To separate the new unit I drilled a suitable size hole in a piece of angle, fitted the full unit into said hole, then applied pressure as before. Then test for water flow on the truck before fitting the new piece to the existing part that passes through the vehicle skin. This may be a bit late for you if you have already changed yours, but it may help others doing the same task. I hope you get it sorted. Mick |

You know there’s a little access panel, behind the stereo?
It’s a 10 minute job, remove the ashtray to add light. |

Ah, no I didn't know that and thanks for sharing. I would not have been as worried if I had known that! However replacement of the jet part worked for me so all good 👍

Fab, if people use the search facility in the future, they’ll see and hopefully it’ll help them.
The access panel (held in with 4 screws) also has a little ‘half moon’ cut out at the top, so if you’re upgrading to a DAB radio you can route the antenna and mic cable through there, to save drilling holes. |

I must admit, as someone with little knowledge and experience on the truck (well any automotive repair) I tend to be reluctant to try things as I am worried I am going to brake it! I really need to get more confidence 😩
Give me the angle grinder and welder any time!!! |
