Check that it is really not overheating... if that is ok, check the cylinder head temperature sensor.

I had something similar.
Initially cleaned MAF and MAP, but it didn;t completely clear the problem. Then VCV Which again changed the issues a bit but not completely. After a LOT of head scratching I again changed the VCV, when I took the one out it was different! All here https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic80592.html I think it was the VCV, but I still have an underlying issue in that it occasionally stalls a few seconds after starting (which I think is a separate issue with the Throttle Position Sensor).
