Don't know what make the grease gun I use is, they come with the excavators in work.
 I use Morris K48 grease as I've recently fitted Gwyn Lewis propshafts and that is what he recommends.  |

Most of our plant have Alemite grease guns, seems much better quality than the usual draper stuff etc, the drivers seem to rate them too. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

Alemite 500e . You will not find a better grease gun wiith a flexible hose and a superb coupler. I bought an additional coupler but expect the first one will outlive me as will the grease gun.
Available from https://allube.co.uk/alemite-500-grease-gun/ I spent ages researching, including farming forums, and went with this setup and works perfect on the props. Plus I also use the Morris k48. Great grease on ujs and bolts etc. It’s an ngli 2 with an added molly. Ashcroft and gwyn lewis recommendations. Others may say a pure NGLI 2 grease is better for UJ’s. Only time will tell. |

Great quality kit. I think I paid £40 for mine with all the bits but it's nearly £70 now the pound is in the toilet. I'd still recommend it though. WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |

Good suggestions so far.
Think I will switch to the Morris K48 grease then. I find the Puma UJ’s easier to do with a wheel jacked up and an axle stand in place. and wheels properly chocked. Then you can spin the prop in situ to access the nipple better and also rotate the UJ’s. I like to use both an axle stand and bottle jack, extra safety margin that way and get in and out only on the side on the ground. Also parked on flat ground too. If you have a lift then you obviously don’t have the faff. I did mine today funny enough hence this post, the grease gun really was annoying and frankly made the job take twice as long. I do the same , Jack and stand front axle on one side to rotate lifted front wheel so prop rotates and grease nipple is in best position to couple and grease UJ, no slider nipples on my props. Then do same on rear.

Yep, works well one of those jobs always to be safe with though.
In future eventually I think I’ll go for the K48 and the Allemite 500E. For now it’s done for a while, perhaps might be a good Xmas present.
Regarding the grease types, it’s hard to say. Any grease is better than none though it’s safe to say, some years ago I was surprised to find mine had grease nipples actually missing. The ones I fitted have been good though and I use a little bradawl to free up the little bearing and clean it a little before coupling. I found the draper coupling hose a bit short too, about 30cm. Makes it awkward. Having said that I didn’t pay much for it, so can’t complain. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Thanks for starting the thread. Interesting to see all the comments on a decent gun.
I use an air operated gun that I don’t have any issues with, don’t know the make off hand. But I am always looking for anything that does a good job. It is a little bit of extra work to get the air lines out and run the compressor then put the lines back again for a half hour of greasing. Been using a “Lube Shuttle” for a couple of years, brilliant tool.
Not cheap, but no more repeating bleeding. 😃😃 |
