Headlights go out....!
Hi all,

My main beam and dipped beam occasionally flicker out and don't immediately come back on. The side lights stay on however. I can hold back the indicator stalk to put my main beams whenever this happens but upon releasing the lights are sometimes still off.

I can't figure out whats causing this.

I have checked the dip/dim relay and that's missing and pins2+8 are bridged.

I've ordered a new indicator stalk and main master light switch but yet to fit as they sent the wrong parts Sad. If these don't work what else should i be checking? Where is the relay for these lights? I assume it's not a relay specific for these as the full beam flash still works...? I also assume it's not a grounding issue for the lights as the full beam flash wouldn't work. The sidelights are not affected however i think they might be linked to this problem?

So im thinking this has something to do with the switch or the side lights circuit? Does anyone have a full wiring diagram for this or any ideas?

Many thanks

Sounds like a classic symptom of the headlight switch dying. Get it swapped over asap.

I concur, dead headlamp switch, as the whole headlamp power goes through it, eventually melting the plastic that holds the contacts inside. Avoid this happening again by making or buying an additional lighting harness with relays.

As in all of the amps that go through the light are drawn through this switch and there's no relays???? That can't be right can it?

It’s exactly right. There are relays in the system but they’re to do with ignition switching and dim/dip. The lamp current goes through the switch.

So switched changed and still have the same fault, any idea where the relay R123 is located in the vehicle (shown mid left of the below image) .

The relay you refer to (C0282) is in the passenger compartment fuse box. There is also a pink relay, the dim-dip relay, located behind the instrument pack. This went wrong on mine recently but that only affected dipped beam, not full beam as well.

I would do the wiring mod anyway before the switch does go, the loom is also available at Paddocks https://www.paddockspares.com/boomslang-pe...-loom.html 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6
