wheel cylinder troubles
Hi
Hope someone might be able to give me a steer with a wheel cylinder problem on my Series One (1957)

Today I set about changing the off side rear wheel cylinder ( no drama) then the front. The system is 'empty' of fluid (all lost through the rear cylinder). The new front Delphi cylinder seems to have a too powerful spring. The pistons are being held in by the rubbers, I fitted it but it is forcing the shoes out to max. Had a nightmare getting the drum off again.

Am I missing something obvious? The rear cylinder acted as expected, pistons pushed back and gently expanded.

Any suggestions, do I have a new but duff cylinder? 1984 One-Ten CSW

I presume you have the 10", single leading shoe set up? If so, does the shoe-shoe spring not keep the pistons 'returned' in the cylinder? I've never had a wheel cylinder with an internal spring strong enough to over power the shoe spring.

Assuming you have all the springs in their correct places then I can only think that you either have a duff (overly powerful cylinder spring) wheel cylinder as you suggest or a particularly weak shoe spring.

Thanks. Straight out of the box the cylinder pistons seem fully out, you can push them in but they return immediately. The return springs to be fair look tired so I am going to get a new set. We are going to check with the local Indi supplier and I will give it a go again next weekend. All very odd Rolling Eyes 1984 One-Ten CSW
