Hi
Hope someone might be able to give me a steer with a wheel cylinder problem on my Series One (1957) Click image to enlargebrakewvf by Richard Holmes, on Flickr Today I set about changing the off side rear wheel cylinder ( no drama) then the front. The system is 'empty' of fluid (all lost through the rear cylinder). The new front Delphi cylinder seems to have a too powerful spring. The pistons are being held in by the rubbers, I fitted it but it is forcing the shoes out to max. Had a nightmare getting the drum off again. Am I missing something obvious? The rear cylinder acted as expected, pistons pushed back and gently expanded. I presume you have the 10", single leading shoe set up? If so, does the shoe-shoe spring not keep the pistons 'returned' in the cylinder? I've never had a wheel cylinder with an internal spring strong enough to over power the shoe spring.
Assuming you have all the springs in their correct places then I can only think that you either have a duff (overly powerful cylinder spring) wheel cylinder as you suggest or a particularly weak shoe spring. A photo would help 1985 127 V8 Build Thread Series 2 109" Series 1 80" |
