Check your head gasket with a test kit like this:

After doing the injector seals and seats agen it still does it, it only does it on a motor way or due carnage way !, and you can pull over and restart the car agen and its back to full power! whats the vcv valve ? , ill check the oil cap or milky oil and do a lead down test on the coolest sister

I’ve been down this road and I know your pain and frustration!
Here’s the thread on mine: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic75278.html Everything on my car was fine, except for this one issue which would only happen under hard acceleration. It slowly got worse and I would be able to predict when it would happen. I ran a nanocom so I could see the engine temp which would indicate when it was going to go into limp mode. When it happened it would reset after about 10 seconds and the power would come back on allowing acceleration. Because everything was fine and tests were negative, I ruled out the head gasket. In the end I took it to a garage who took the top of the engine off and found it was the head gasket. Interestingly, I was talking to another guy who had the same issue and the RELD test he did was also coming back as negative. His issue also turned out to be head gasket. I replaced a lot of things that didn’t need replacing. On the plus side I now have a good spares shelf |

HI right iv been on a drive with my snap on scanner plunged in . the temp gage gets up to 90* and stays there, so the head is probably ok. the fuel rail pressure at ideal is 23001 when driving down the road at 60mph it goes between 124633 and and 141232 when it near 14 black smoke comes out the exhures. all this is pointing towards the vcv valve ?

What is the connection between the hard pipes and a possible faulty head gasket? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

It’s the gasses getting into the system so indicates a leak from the head gasket (which a RELD test should pick up but clearly not always) or a cracked block as it will leak from the bottom of the engine.
You’ll also find that the system will hold pressure for days so if you opened your coolant cap a couple of days after a drive, you’ll get the hiss. What I learnt from this was if the engine is on and the pipes go hard with no escape of pressure when its off then its likely there’s an escape from within the engine. |
