Has anyone found a supplier for OE spec defender footwells with reinforcing ribs?
YRM would be the obvious choice but their panels don't have the ribs, roversnorth sell some nice panels but importing repair sections from the US seems a bit backward. I'm aware that most opt to replace with the YRM type smooth footwells but I only need to replace one and my OCD won't let me have one ribbed and one smooth footwell. 1985 127 V8 Build Thread Series 2 109" Series 1 80" |

I would definitely have the same problem. And when needed to make repairs for a friend, made sure to retain the ribs.
Can you try with these guys.. their illustration show that it is correct design: https://www.pegasusparts.co.uk/ourshop_900...ender.html I have not checked, as do not need, but will appreciate your feedback. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Thanks Dinnu, unfortunately Pegasus parts have a pretty poor reputation (some people seem pleased but others received no parts or communication) so I'll avoid them. They are also very expensive compared to YRM, I think I may end up making my own repair panels for the few repairs I need to do to the outer footwells. 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

Sorry for the stupid question, but why are there so many pre-drilled holes in all the footwell repair panels? Genuine water ingress feature, or ...?

There are quite a few holes on the original too.
Starting from bottom side, there are 2 or 3 square holes for the floorboard nut locking. There are another 2 holes for the chassis bracker Driver side have bonnet release cable hole Driver side has 4 holes for steering column bracket Further up there are 12 holes for clutch and brake pedal boxes plus an additional 4 or 6 holes for the gas pedal. A few other holes for earths. More holes for clips for brake pipes, harness, etc. I have missed mentioning some other holes too. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Those look great llessur, I'll order a pair once my bulkhead has been dipped and I know the full extent of the corrosion. 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

oops sorry i did not read the first post properly! Are those ribs just a design feature as they just look pressed into the steel and not reinforcing it ?your right though it would burst my melon to have one ribbed and one not......... |

The ribs will stiffen the plate. So adding stiffness without adding weight. Although Landrover then spot weld another flat plate on top of it, effectively making a hollow section.. which further increase stiffness. Unlike the series, the footwells are structural, as they support the bulkhead fore/aft tilt (Series also had 3 ribs, different design, and no transverse rib).
Unfortunately having another plate spot welded on top make for a water trap and promote corrosion. But if I had to repair, I would want the ribs. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Depends on your welding skills, but you could spot weld the ribs on then tig braze the seam to make it a full sealed section to prevent/delay the corrosion.

Brazing or additional welding other than spot welds will cause the footwell to warp. Not ideal in my opinion.
I chose to fill the cavities with wax while the bulkhead was suspended up side down. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

^^^ That’s a plan. Maybe Seam sealer as well.

Doing some bedtime reading last night of a LR mag from last year, I saw a Britpart ad. They do some with ribs.
