Is there a rubber pad or anything that goes between the spare tire and the mount on the rear door?

Short answer is no.
Spare wheel is just 'clamped' onto the mount by three wheel nuts. Why do you ask? Brendan |

Then we have the discussion about which swing away carrier fits with which rear bumperettes! Brendan |

If you have 235/85 and its doing it, take the wheel off and adjust the nuts on the lugs, ie turn them back nearer the door. then refit the wheel. Play with it til its hard up against the door.
if you have wider tyres than 235 then you cant do it as the wiper will foul on the tyre, and the vibration on door close is unavoidable |

That will obstruct your rear wiper if you have one. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

The point is you move the adjustment nuts until the position suits/it doesnt rattle.

I don't have a swing away. I have a 265/75/16 on the door. It doesn't make noise when I drive just I close the door it shakes a bit and it annoys me.
My last 110 was a 93 and I had a mantec on it as the oroginal door sucked and cracked all over from the weight of the door. |

it only does it with wider tyres. mines the same. with the old 235's it didnt do it, but i can relate to how irritating it is. when you shut the door you think wtf?! its going to fall off

In which case, your nuts need adjusting

are there nuts on there for sure? I have svx rims. Just wondering what is under the wheel. With the door closed if I rock the wheel it seems fine.
