Try charging the battery for a day or 2
There is voltage level triggers in all the Start Stop Systems Not saying that is the issue - but a good place to start. |

Thanks, I did try charging the battery, but it made no difference. As I mentioned as soon as I turn the a/c off it works fine. D300 HSE - Eiger Grey

from bitter experience on other models and I can only imagine the Defender is the same in this space. the Stop Start system is way to clever for its own good. From my own problems I know it relies on parameters across the whole battery management system being just right for it to work. It monitors current draw vs battery state and more so the minute something is slightly out of whack it stops working. My dealer spent weeks trying to find a problem on one of my discos. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Evoque batteries were dying on some models after a few months because of the stop start especially on cars only doing short town runs. Save the battery and turn it off! Jeff

Consider yourself lucky - most people are trying to find a way to disable the damned thing, yours has done it itself!

It never works during the winter on my velar, due to heating being on, heated seats etc. In the summer it works more unless a really hot day where the aircon is working hard.
To be honest it’s not worth the hassle. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue |

Seems like it is working as it should then. AC is a stop start inhibit. If you are requesting cold and it can’t maintain it for 4 minutes without the engine running then it won’t go in to an eco stop |

I don't believe that is how it should work. In my wife's RRS which is almost brand new, same d300 engine, it works perfectly with the A/C on and pretty much every car I've driven in the past few years has also had no problem with it working while the a/c is on. I do understand if for example it was very hot outside and a/c was on max, but even setting a/c to outside temp of 22 degrees (Celsius) and fan speed of 1, it still won't work.
Happy to be corrected if I am however wrong. D300 HSE - Eiger Grey L405, Disco 4, RRS all sold. |

From the manual -
TRIGGERING AN AUTO STOP To trigger an auto stop, drive forward with Drive (D) or Sport (S) selected, and stop the vehicle. Fully press the brake pedal to make sure the vehicle is stationary. The following conditions inhibit an auto stop: The external temperature is less than approximately -4°C. The external temperature is more than approximately 40°C. The engine or other vehicle systems have not reached their optimum operating temperatures. The driver's seat belt is unbuckled. Demand from the climate control system requires the engine to be running, e.g., when in defrost mode. The vehicle's battery charge is low. The auto stop/start system is deactivated. After reversing, the vehicle's speed has not exceeded 16 km/h (10 mph). The instrument panel displays an information lamp when the vehicle is stationary and the auto stop/start system is active, but operation is inhibited. See AUTO STOP/START INHIBIT (WHITE). 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue |

Appreciate all of that, however none of it applies, what does happen is that when you press the brake pedal then the stop/start symbol in the dash comes up in white. As I mentioned as soon as I turn off the a/c it works perfectly. D300 HSE - Eiger Grey

Same Problem. Picked up my 4 cylinder Defender 110 two months ago. Engine won't stop unless the A/C is off or at 75 degrees F or higher. Salesman has the same one WITH additional rear A/C and his works fine. Service Manager says that's the way it is. Landrover USA says they agree with the dealer. Salesman says maybe a future software update will fix it. I understand that many people don't like it, but I consider it a defect if it doesn't work as specified. Anybody else get a better resolution?

Mine has worked faultlessly since delivery last year until the latest update over the air was installed and now it only works occasionally even when all the requirements are met apart from I haven’t been able to check the battery charge. Previous cars with Auto stop start have had a second battery for AS/S but I don’t think L663 has the extra battery.
