Check the wheel speed sensors are the same type, I know on bmw’s there were two different types and they were in compatiable. No idea in Ford land if they did the same Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

Only mentioning as bmw with a mk20 the sensors are different to a mk60 the units look identical but have seen issues caused by people getting wrong sensor and driving them mad, one is Hall effect and the other is different type. Simplest is use the sensors from the transit (so don’t bin them)
If you can put them on the same location as the defender sensors but you can get diagnostics now that will tell you if it’s reading when you spin the wheels. The bmw ones mentioned above worked in two totally different ways, don’t ask me how I know as it took a while to diagnose the actual issue 😂 Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing. 5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

Lots of wiring to be removed... And yes it still runs.
I have A list of wiring that can be removed from each plug pin by pin and also the colours in case some looms may be different. I will post this when the loom is finished with pics of how and where I will be shortening and extending to fit into the defender. All of this is something I couldn’t find before I started and if I can do it hopefully more will too with a little help that is kept secret for obvious reasons. I also will post a list of the parts that I needed. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

That's a lot of wiring! Are you going to transplant the full Transit loom in on the car side as well or look to splice engine loom into the Defender loom? > 110 XS Double Cab

I'm slowly sieving through the 3 transit looms taking out what I don't require to minimise the amount of wiring to keep it running and acting as it should, obviously the defender already has heater/blower wiring, radio, doesn't have an electronic cooling fan, all exterior lighting interior lighting the list goes on, but I will be keeping everything defender in the defender and basically I'm hoping it will run stand alone and act as it should. I currently have the engine out and running on its own with the harness I'm working on so i dont see why not.
so to answer in the short i wont be joining the 2 harnesses they should work independently from there own fuse boxes, im hoping any way What I would really like to know is, can the anti theft system be deleted or permanently disabled like it can for the chevy LS engines?. is there anyone here that could help me with this ? |

That's brilliant! Watching with a keen eye. What about interfacing with dials? Martin the site admin is clued up on his autoelectrics and control systems, would be worth making contact > 110 XS Double Cab |

The instrument cluster use canbus 11 I think and so does a 2.4 defender so I’m looking into that.

I haven’t gave up. I’ve been busy with work so had very little time with defender. Wiring is stripped back and engine is running with no MIL lights in cluster but still thinking I may hit an issue with the esp putting me on limp mode but will cross that bridge later. Also nothing to say I won’t get lights once it’s driving like I say fix that later.
Next switching the back of the mt82 on the the mt85 bell housing. There’s 12mm difference in diameter and the 82 will not go so has to be done. Once this is complete engine in and start routing the harness for either extending or shortening where needed. I know I’ve said I will post pics, I will get round to it soon. |

Gearbox day today both stripped for mt85 bell housing swap.
I have also read on other forums that the main difference in the two boxes are upgrades bearings. The codes are the same on the mt82 and the mt85 so bearings are the same but very minor differences gear selectors are different pics to show breathers are different detent are different but are all interchangeable. The job is not for the faint hearted. Just like the rest of the conversion.
